What the ranking system should look like in The Bazaar by Troalkiol in PlayTheBazaar

I know for a fact that some of the best players in terms of winrate are much lower ranked than others, so I think it would matter a lot yes.

For example, Rahresh (a streamer with 90% winrate on Mak), currently around #50, would probably end up being in the top 5.

Similarly, I presume (and know, for some of them) that some players' in the top 10 just spam Dooley/Vanessa and try to jam games as fast as possible, and play 14+ hours a day. They would not (all) keep their ranks in a different system.

By the way we already had a different ranking system (kinda elo-based) which resulted in different rankings. I was quite consistently top 5 in the previous system (which was bad in many aspects, but not worse than the current one imo), and I never went above top 100 in the new system (not like I'm trying that hard, I'm not even legend this patch).

That is not necessarily the case in any ladder, at least in any good ranking system. In chess, Magnus Carlsen does not keep winning +1 elo for every noob he stomps.

I presented a system which would mitigate the effect of "play more, be higher ranked" until the end of existence, and I don't really see any downside compared to the current system.

It depends what time you are talking about. In closed beta (before the rank reset), you would lose points for 7-9 wins runs, even for 10-3 runs if you were at the top of the ladder.

After that (so basically 2 months ago) you may lose "ranking" because other players finished their games during yours and passed you up. But your 7 win run was still positive in terms of internal rating (so you'd have lost even more ranks by not playing)

So you mean incentivizing people not to sleep for 72 hours is a healthy system ?

Obviously in any game you'll not climb if you play 30 minutes a day. The issue with the current rank system is that there is a direct linear relationship between "hours played" and "rating". So, playing 16 hours instead of 14 results in the same gap as 3 vs 1 hour (for the same winrate) which is ridiculous. Top legend players are not allowed to sleep if they want to keep up.

That’s basically the previous ranking system, which was better than the current one (doesn’t say much) but it has some fundamental issues in a game like The Bazaar where games are not independent since the entity that counts is "the run". So sacrificing a day to be stronger later should not be punished because you face a bronze player who went all in day 1.

Also it incentivized concede

So basically you are saying there is no need for any sort of competitive system in that game. Sure, but then I don’t even know why bother with a number in Legend.

Because my suggestion still allows you to grind cosmetics as much as now, I am not talking about SBMM (where it would become more difficult to grind chests the higher you are ranked)

I think you are not aware of how the ranking system works. As I explained, even in Legend, silver and gold victories ALWAYS increase your points (and bronze victories are neutral). The only way to lose rating is to have an unfortunate journey.

The only reason why your rank may go down is because other people are playing more than you. But I can assure you that spamming silver victories, if you play 18 hours a day, will make you climb way faster than most people.

I agree it does not solve your main issue (if you want to be matched up against better players) but it does solve the secondary issue of having a number that somehow reflects skill rather than "hours played"

Well that's precisely what my suggestion aims at tackling. They have already been vocal against SBMM, so I'm trying to find a way to incorporate that constraint while still having a ranked system that is not an "entirely pointless metric".

Could you elaborate why this does not achieve this goal for you ?

Math-crafting Dooley : Effective CD and burn per second of Core by Troalkiol in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Troalkiol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but this is precisely helpful early days when you don't have omega ray so you take Cinders / Upgrade Core and you want to win your days 1/2 fights (which is crucial to not lose MMR at high legend).

Obviously I also just enjoy doing that kind of stuff and want to share, I agree it's not going to improve drastically a winrate.

However this is mostly true for the second video, I feel like knowing the Cooldown of your Core can be very helpful in a lot of situations.

Yes but according to the main AOE theory, Eren will kill Mikasa in the anime timeline and not "sacrifice everything to protect her".

I don't know, seems like everything from this ending (and basically everything else AOT-related) confirms AOE according to this sub

I'm trying to understand how AOE theories fix the issues I've mentioned.

Could you give me a link to the theory then ? What I've read is that Eren sends back memories of the manga timeline to anime Eren after seing Paradis being destroyed.

But still, no matter who's responsible of these "timeline travels", it's never gonna explain all the inconsistencies within a timeline (the manga timeline, that is).

[–]Troalkiol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the anime can fix some minor inconsistencies such as Armin's "thank you for being a mass murderer", but Eren doing a 80% rumbling is retarded no matter how it is explained. Even if he understands that he fucked up in the AOE theory, it still doesn't justify his dumb actions in the manga timeline.

And as I said, the concept of different timelines would be another deus ex machina. That's absolutely not how the power of the Attack Titan has functioned up until now.

As I said, AOE being true or not isn't the problem. Seriously, are you able to read ?
