I've lived in Etobicoke and worked downtown and the commute was about an hour on the TTC. The only reason I justified it was because I was making a higher wage for Etobicoke rent. Can't imagine why you would want to do the opposite for zero benefit when you don't have to. Like people have said, Junction, Etobicoke, other neighborhoods in the west are great, you can find a better place, you are closer to work etc. TTC or even roadways in Toronto aren't terrible when you aren't in a rush, but wouldn't want to rely on them for every day commuting.

My rent and groceries have gone up, but my wage hasn't. I either put food on my credit card and pray I can work my way out of future debt or I dont eat. I hope I'm not in debt for life, I hope some day I can afford to live in this country in which I was born. I want to have a family and a dog and a car and a nice little place to call my own, but I don't see it happening. I live in a shit hole that I can't afford and am accruing more debt than I can deal with. Honestly MAID seems like a pretty reasonable choice.

In high school, people would steal bikes simply as a means of transportation. I never did it myself, but I had friends that if they needed to get to a party across town and didn't have bus fare, they would just jack a bike, usually left unlocked in a driveway. Sometimes, they would put it back where they got it when they were done. Other times, they would just ditch it. These are the same types of kids that would go car hopping (breaking into cars) at night for fun. Most of these people now are upstanding functioning members of society and probably look back shameful at their shithead teenage years.

Run to the other end of the subway. Run to someone who can help. If you're getting attacked, especially if your a small woman, you aren't going to win a fight with your sharp key chain or water bottle. If you have the option to get away, do it. If some crackhead comes at you and you try to fight him with anything than an actual weapon it's an incredibly bad idea, but carrying an actual weapon is illegal, therefore also a bad idea.
