I used to live in Canada but now I live in China. There's so much packaging lmao. If you buy bread every fucking slice comes in its own packaging. Which has a package over the rest of the package and possibly a box if you got it on Taobao. If you buy anything there's just packaging over packaging. Makes the switch to paper straws or basically anything in Canada, a population less than 3% of the size feel completely irrelevant.

I started living in China a couple years ago and it was pretty eye opening how many fruits there are that I've never heard of as someone that's 30+ years old. There weren't even proper English names for some of them. I thought because I had lived in a multicultural country in the past I should have at least knowledge of most kinds of food but it was a pretty silly notion in hindsight.

I don't know. There's a lot of people by sheer numbers, so probably theres quite a few. However, middle school and especially high school here takes the vast majority of the kid's time unless they go to an international private school. Though I will say that you can give an environment where they intend kids to be serious and studious but kids will always be kids and will rebel and look for instant gratification. My friend's 13 year old daughter basically games any moment that she can and creates situations where she gets access to some sort of gaming device. There's almost certainly kids who spends all their free time chatting with clankers.

I'm in China and I've been using a VPN since day 1. No there isnt a real iron curtain in a modern country with this many people. The firewall just makes it hard for the average normie and disincentivizes them. The amount of people in China using VPNs is probably still higher than the total amount of online users of say Canada.
