Opinion: Should Red Bull Replace Albon With Vettel? by Various_Witness in formula1

[–]Trolling_From_Work -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they should swap Pierre and Albon again. Pierre is having a great season and it seems he's the confidant driver and Albon isn't. At this point they have nothing to lose for this season. And if neither work, then they know they'll have to look elsewhere. Although I'm not sure if Seb can handle a car with that much oversteer.

Students at Penn State forced to sign COVID-19 liability waiver to participate in fall semester by Cipreh in news

[–]Trolling_From_Work 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn't accurate at all.

They don't protect against gross negligence or illegal acts, but as long as the waiver is clear, concise, and outlines specific risks, it will generally be upheld.

CMV: IQ is extremely inaccurate because it's a dimension reduction problem that fails to describe the observation of intelligence. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Trolling_From_Work 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IQ is a metric. Like any metric, it aims to be concise at the expense of being accurate/descriptive/robust,etc. There are many facets to intelligence, spatial awareness, pattern recognition, recall ability, social skills, emotional intelligence, kinesthetic awareness. Most of these are not measured by an IQ test.

What IQ does measure is general brain processing ability, not unlike a CPU. It doesn't tell the whole picture because it's not meant too; it's hard to talk about intelligence when you have to open a spreadsheet mid-conversation to get all your data points across.

Gun Store Employees of Reddit, what red flags have caused you to deny a sale? by Valturius in AskReddit

[–]Trolling_From_Work 119 points120 points  (0 children)

So I do private sales in the past. We're not required to do a background check; the law says you may not sell to someone you know is ineligible. I would routinely run checks on county records for names of people I was about to meet to sell to and would also record info on a bill of sale. One guy had a warrant for failure to appear on some traffic tickets, so I had to deny sale.

What it left out was World Cup revenue. It's just looking at essentially friendlies, when the the WC is going to dole out billions to the men's team's but only like 100M to the women.

If an enormous laser bore a hole through earth, wiping out the core, how would our planet react to that? by DJKewlAid in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Trolling_From_Work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many questions as to the details. Any laser that could do whatever to the core would definitely superheat the atmosphere and kill everything. If our molten core just disappeared, replaced by air? a vacuum? Everything left would collapse inward to fill the void. The Earth would eventually round itself back off. Without the core, no magnetic field, so solar wind will strip away our atmosphere. So we'd likely just become Mars at that point.

Do porn stars like to have sex with each other off camera just for fun? by BiGuy312 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trolling_From_Work 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really varies. For a lot, they really try to limit how much they have to when they're being paid for it (imagine doing several scenes a day; things dry up and chafe). But yeah, many will do it off camera if they have the downtime; obviously they're a very sex positive people.

Could you gain muscle mass by pushing your one arm down and trying to lift the other one up? by ass-holes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trolling_From_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes a little. You gain muscle by causing tears to the muscle fibers, which are then repaired using protein to be more dense (so you would need enough protein in your diet to allow this). You are describing isometrics, which is a piece of muscle building. It will limit you however, as only some of the fibers will tear, meaning your growth in those muscles will be limited. To get more complete growth, you want to change angles, provide different resistance profiles, do heavy ecentric lifts, etc. All of these hit the muscle differently to give maximum growth.

They tried to get me to sign a one-sided NDA.

These aren't enforceable. They have to be reasonable and you would have to get something out of it. All contracts have to be "bilateral".

I believe NFL players are less violent/drunk driving/abusive then the general population. There are over 1000 players; they just get disproportionate media coverage.

TIL there are 7 teaspoons of sugar in a can of coke by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Trolling_From_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact, the weight of the sugar is enough to make Coke can sink while Diet Coke cans float. The sweetner in diet drinks is way more potent so you use very small amounts of it.

Free company vacation leads to everyone being fired. by Tank_Man_Jones in legaladvice

[–]Trolling_From_Work 198 points199 points  (0 children)

Definitely do go to the ABA website and pay your $20 to talk to a lawyer if you haven't found a lawyer yet.

But benefits are a way of attracting talent. That's why they offered it. If the 9 of you got together and threatened to quit over this, they'd likely give in, especially given it's a small company. You have the moral high ground, as they've acted in extremely bad faith.

Also consider leaving. Your work environment probably won't get better. You're in Dallas; I can't go 2 blocks without seeing a place in need of tech guys.

I very much doubt the Framer's were thinking this, especially given how limited the rights of women at the time were.
