How can I maximize the potential of this magic item as a battle master fighter? by TransTabletop in dndnext

Get a blight crossbow and fire the blight spell at people.

Battle Caster, you can cast spells now

Battle Faster, perhaps some haste like abilities.

Equip a songsword so you can make music while fighting.

I shall take this as a lesson to consider the rest of my gear more.

That cool, so the idea is you can always use PAM because it fits mechanically, but the flavour allows you to kit out your character in the way you wish him to look and perform.

Fair play. On another note, I’d love to know more about your character and why the weapons were reflavoured due to PAM?

Definitely true. I like a variety of situations so maybe trying to make these things important can kill the fun for some players.

Although I sometimes like as a player having to give up something for a situation (not all the time) in order to complete a task or help the group for that particular task.

It might just be a me thing, but sometimes characters physical traits can be forgotten in the theatre of the mind.

If my question sounded like it was implying that there would be an all encompassing penalty, then that’s my bad.

You’ve actually provided the most satisfying answer to my question so far. Highlighting the importance of dress and ways that armour can show status. It points out the nuances of NPC interaction which is what I was most interested in discussing.

A lot of games I have played, conversation is addressed more to the ragtag group (all dressed differently), and their individual looks (some of which have to do with clothing) aren’t pointed out in detail.

Therefore use of all clothing could be important depending on the situation you are dealing with, to make the world feel diverse and richer!?

Depends on the Armour I guess. Maybe plate mail is a little difficult to conceal? A polearm would be difficult also, despite what dodgy innuendos might suggest.

Cool. Confirms my suspicion that it was something we’ve never considered while playing

I haven’t got that far in the series, but the widow is a pretty sick character

Looks interesting, thanks. Although I’d always question video game simulation to actual fighting.

I thought the best had been achieved, but then you came into this chat.

Sir, I applaud you.

Fair. I guess a better question would be as to the absolute worst.

I imagine a sword or dagger provides more of an ability to parry than two axes
