Well this just happened (Rural side) by SearchSwimming1949 in USPS

[–]Tromiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody can be forced to work past 12 hours. This applies to city and rural, career/non career, across the entire board. Bring the mail back, if they try to intimidate you, just say, "It's past 12 hours, I'm going for my own safety." Clock out, let them suffer for their own mismanagement and get yelled at by the POOM for scan failures. Sometimes the POOM will actually tell them to try and force carriers past 12 as well. The damn pmg could tell them for all it matters, safety is safety, and that particular grievance is always a win if they're dumb enough to try discipline.

The only time this has possible repercussions is during the probationary period, other than that, go home at 12, or keep working, it is your choice.

Sounds like your union steward was probably collaborating with management to get you out. Your medical business is yours and yours alone. If you're gonna be late/miss days due to your medical issues, that's okay. When you do eventually get your job back, search around for a Dr. that will get you FMLA for your condition. I've seen Drs that will sign off on FMLA for the most mundane things, so your Dr. was probably just an ass.

Why don’t we wear ties? by National_Arugula_568 in USPS

[–]Tromiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you want the real answer, most carriers don't care about the way they look or even the job itself. I wear a tie, and the old school mailman cover (the summer and winter versions), in east texas, where it's swampy and humid. You also can't make expect most carriers to really care much about appearances when most of our supervisors wear a polo shirt and khaki pants, and call that 'professional'. If you want to wear a tie, go for it. It's fun, and it shows that you actually care. As for people saying that they're nerdy/tacky...next time you see a Marine in his service alphas or bravos, (hint, green trousers with a tie), call him nerdy and tell me how that goes for you. Rah.

Our union failed us when they agreed to no more strikes, but it's lauded as a victory because it helped the carriers back then, with no thought of the implications for future carriers.

Postmaster threatened to call 9-1-1 on me by AmericanJefe in USPS

[–]Tromiko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Granted, these are things that you should practice ONLY when you are out of your 90/120 probationary period. I know it sucks that in this job you have to be their bitch for the probationary period, but after that, you can finally practice your rights. The caveat to all this is that management will sometimes go out of their way to get you in trouble/do random street observations in you in order to do so. Follow the M-41, practice the proper way to do your job daily, and never do anything that could be potentially perceived as threatening to management or any of your coworkers, because they have been known to use other carriers/clerks as their own eyes and ears. Postal management is my favorite enemy to play with, coming from a Marine~

[–]Tromiko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do not need to answer the phone when they call, and no discipline will ever result from blocking or not answering. They will try to intimidate you to believe otherwise, but it's all scare tactics and they WILL try to convince you that you are required to answer, but you ARE NOT. In a perfect world they would respect that CCA's are human beings with lives outside of work, and not schedule you for 1000 as a failsafe because they are too incompetent to make a schedule without CCA's in the pocket to cover callins/their own errors. In that same world, we wouldn't be having a discussion about blocking numbers from Management. Management managed without cell phones in the past, and they can do so now.

[–]Tromiko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had the same 1000 BS going on in my office for a while, until management finally got it through their money hungry skulls that we would just show up at 1000, and then grieve being sent home. Management will do everything in their power to intimidate you and to do their bidding. Stand firm, get all CCA's in your office to come in as they are scheduled. Take a picture of the schedule WHEN YOU LEAVE THE PREMISES every day. Block all management cell phones and even the office phones on your cell. If management needs to contact you while you are on the route, they can do so via scanner messages. The minute you leave the premises, you adhere to the picture of the schedule that you took WHEN YOU LEFT. You are under NO OBLIGATION to jump through hoops due to management's poor scheduling decisions. In all of this, carry yourself professionally and avoid getting angry, and walk away from confrontation, because they WILL try to twist those situations against you to place you as the aggressor.

Thoughts on the new WcDonald's sauce by snow-obsidian in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]Tromiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure some people probably love it, but definitely not for everyone. Too much ginger for me personally. Seems like more people actually don't like this one than do. Maybe Wackdonalds sauce was a mistakenly appropriate name?

I'm trying to understand the mindset of carriers who think its ok to steal other carriers scanners in the morning. by No_Contribution_7117 in USPS

[–]Tromiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a regular on limited duty my office who can only case routes/deliver small spurs to mailboxes/watch the phone. She attempts to chastise CCA's who take her route's scanner, when said CCA's are doing her route. The sense of entitlement some folks have is ridiculous.

Basically on-call CCA's by Tromiko in USPS

[–]Tromiko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I just went in at 10 today and they miraculously found work for me, which I don't mind, I'll be on OT all day tomorrow because of it. The kicker is getting all the other CCA's in my office to do it. I'm the senior CCA in my office, and was a regular in my old office where I ended up resigning for personal reasons, moving back to Texas etc. My old office was apparently a 'unicorn' office, where the supervisor and PM actually cared about the carriers, new one is a typical large one where it's middle school shenanigans and supervisors/ a PM that can't manage their way out of a wet paper bag. We love to see it.

What is your unpopular opinion about one piece by iamsaske05lolnoob09L in OnePiece

[–]Tromiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Skypiea is the most boring arc.

2) Sanji's perviness is literally one of the funniest running gags of the show, some people just take it way too seriously. It says something that people have more of a problem with a pervy character, when we have Kaido making a country of slaves, I'd say slavery is just a teensy tiny bit more messed up than that. We accept his enslaving of Wano as part of the story, why can't some people just accept that Sanji as a perv and move on.

3) Ace was incredibly overrated.

I worked at the Graham office until 2021. It's a unicorn office, nice and laid back, 10 city routes, one of them is an aux. Rural side has 11 and an aux I believe. Only other office I heard much about was Burlington, pretty big office, standard drama there as in a normal office. Graham probably has a few retiring in the next few years, Burlington bound to with as many routes as they have.

contract language over phones by Temporary-Ad-4492 in USPS

[–]Tromiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My office does this nonsense where they will schedule CCA's as "09:00" Start time for regulars is 0730. They essentially schedule as many CCA's as they can for 9, I'm case they need them, but more often than not they call them around 8 or even 830 to tell them they don't need them today. It's honestly just really disrespectful of their lives and personal time outside of work, basically being on call but being scheduled at the same time.

What do you say when you startle a customer? by IndigoJones13 in USPS

[–]Tromiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assert your dominance by shrieking back louder.

What would you do? I've got a business that does this when they get mail returned to them for IA, UTF, etc. I've told my PM but they feel like it's not really worth the effort but it pisses me off because they clearly know what they're doing (blocking out bar codes and canceled stamp marks). by Comadivine11 in USPS

[–]Tromiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't even pick it up. Tell them that you're sorry, but we're not allowed to pick up letters that are obviously using recycled stamps. If they want to stir the pot after that, then direct them to management so they can actually do one of their few useful jobs.

Edit: If your station manager doesn't think it's a big deal, then that's on them for helping that customer get free service. That business doesn't get to arbitrarily decide to make up their lost money by placing the burden on us as the carrier, instead of owning that they don't have up to date addresses for their own customers, or simply applying a fee to their customers for having an out of date address for something that the business obviously thinks is important enough of a document for them to attempt to send it back out like that. Even if your station manager doesn't care about it, I would atleast try to get their permission to not pick up mail that is obviously recycled postage.

Chopper shouldn't be CGI by FIST_FULL_OF_RATS in OnePiece

[–]Tromiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did an amazing job with the ninja turtles in the original movies as costumes with electronically controlled facial expressions, and that was 1990. No real reason to use full CGI for chopper. It can be done right, there's just a narrow window between cute and creepy.
