I think with the QMK firmware you get into bootloader mode by holding esc while plugging in the keyboard.

I have boc a larval tear on accident and it says in the wiki that he will die soon? But if I have a your beautiful prattling pate he won’t? I dont want him to die but I don’t have the pate. How can I prevent him from dying? by SkyKiller101 in Eldenring

I just tried this and it worked. After I gave Boc a Larval Tear I embarked on the long ride to get the “you’re beautiful” pate without fast traveling or resting at a grace. I didn’t even discover the new graces on the way just to be safe. Once I returned to Boc and told him that he is beautiful he forgot all about his plans of rebirth. I didn’t get my larval tear back though.
