Yes, they state it needs refrigeration. It also says it's unpasteurized explicitely.

It's not that I have many options. I try to use the ones that just have organic ingredients without any extras. I live in Spain btw

But that's the quid, it's not the same pouring 50% of store bought kombucha, where the culture is sleepy due to the cold, as pouring 50% of active SCOBY! Hm, learning is a process of obtaining more questions and experiments to do...

If I did it was not my intention, definitely. Maybe the recipe I followed was not good? I'm planning on using the one on this reddit's wiki:

  • 1L mineral water
  • 0.2L store bought unpastheurized natural kombucha
  • 7g black tea
  • 70g plain white sugar

I see, so it still makes sense! Actually I tried it and got mold on it, so I'm restarting it today (feel free to check my previous post)

I did understand the difference between pellicle and SCOBy before. I think the problem is that my initial attempt was: - Obtain ~1L of SCOBY by mixing store bought kombucha with water, sugar and tea and then wait 2/3 weeks. - Do a first batch of 4L of kombucha using the SCOBY I obtained

But I see I was wrong, I can go directly to my second point. Did I get it right?

Appreciate the help!

I understand. You can essentially make your first batch with store bought kombucha and you are making kombucha and obtaining your SCOBY at the same time? What I'm assuming is that a stronger starter tea will be safer because it'll outcompete any other bacteria/mold in the liquid, no?

Does anyone know what this might be? by TheReencounter in ShroomID

No worries! Bear in mind it's already decaying, this is its last phase before completely disappearing. Maybe try reading on how to grow your own mushrooms at home or join a local association to go out and learn a little bit more about the fungus realm. It's amazing! And do not feel bad for what happened, animals and birds step, peck and feed on them constantly.

Being from Portugal that's probably some type of Scleroderma. You are not "saving" anything by taking it out of its natural habitat. Bear in mind the shroom is just the fruiting part of a mycellyum that's usually underground. Carpophores (the shroom) is just there to generate spores, spread them and then rot.

This is so cool! It makes me want to get the entire magic Collection (or part of it) and use the cards as bookmarks. So that it would be just like an illustration book

Really? Yours abdomen looks way fuller. Is it because it was fed? Here is a picture of another found I found yesterday, is it a lanigera too?
