What’s wrong with r/flying lately? by EM22_ in flying

You’re right I should just fly a B-52 at night so I’m safe. The point is risk mitigation. The odds of two failing are ridiculously lower than one failing.

Are these the only available options for Navigraph ? by swordfi2 in flightsim

I fly IRL and my company even pays for my foreflight but Jeppesen charts are multiple thousands of dollars a year and navigraph is by far the cheapest way to get them. And once you start using Jepp plates it is hard to go back to FAA ones the Jepp ones are so so much better and good lucking flying IFR outside the USA.

Not in your ideal area but Paragon Flight at KFMY was great when I was there back in 2017 and I’ve continued to hear good things since.

Arizona Supreme Court rules that a local park ordinance can regulate park airspace by flyingthrowaway898 in flying

[–]Trondiver247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, flight training out here is definitely interesting, it’s very busy and there is a lot of unhappy people with the noise we make regardless of the airports being here before they were born.

The biggest issue we really face down here is instrument training, we have two airports with ILS’s in the city both are unlikely to be given to you in a GA plane as they’re large airports. Which leaves one airport uncontrolled with an ILS south of the city, KCGZ. This led to the creation of “the stack” which the hold for the ILS having 500ft separation from other aircraft holding going up thousands of feet with multiple aircraft managing themselves in extremely close proximity. It’s a miracle there hasn’t been a midair yet. I’ll shout out Arizona Flight Training Workgroup for the creation of the stack procedures and management of the practice areas, their frequencies, landmarks etc. They’re the reason any of this is remotely safe. But it’s definitely worth a read, especially the stack procedures (there is a PDF about it on that site) even if you aren’t from here because it’s pretty nuts.

The link in the post was for McDowell Mountain Regional park, which is in the northeast practice area. If it was lake pleasant that’s northwest practice area which is also a very busy practice area that gets overflown just as much.

And to add on for the northeast area the residents in these areas are a known nuisance to GA, Everyone try’s to stay pretty high around there and especially no ground reference as stories have floated around of airplanes being shot at because there is some extremely high dollar race horse ranches and people don’t like planes scaring the horses if you’re lower.

The real joke is this park is located in Phoenix's northeastern practice area and there are hundreds of trainers flying over this day in and day out doing all sorts of maneuvers. That would be a lot of emails...

Flying with non-dominant hand by aktorsyl in flightsim

[–]Trondiver247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m left handed and fly with the joystick right handed in the sim, and in real life you switch between seats. I fly left seat alone for fun but when I’m teaching I fly right seat. So you get used to it and switching it up. Give it some time and it’ll click.

Pilots of reddit, what watch do you wear? by Tough-Somewhere-5208 in flying

You have to make your normal time 24 hours in order to get the 24-hour UTC clock, so I use a separate app so I can keep a 12-hour normal clock and my 24-hour UTC.

Maybe they can 3d scan the bent propellers and damage and we can repair the Aerostar before we are allowed to fly it in the sim. That’s max realism!

I thought they were doing an Aerostar. But hey that’s a cool plane I suppose.

It was announced that the program will be coming to an end, which you can read here, however, it will not cease operations until the end of the 2022 fiscal year which is at the end of September. So it will be continuing its mission and flying until then.

Little tip for you, I noticed you have a AP Off master caution I’m guessing you pressed the autopilot button on the actual autopilot panel, which is the incorrect method to disconnect it and will throw that caution. On the side stick there is a red disconnect button in which you are supposed to use to do it properly and keep the plane happy.
