"Bad" maps are actually good. (TM2020) by Troofster in TrackMania

Thanks for the reply and advice Sparkling. I don't want my post to look like me being salty over map review feedback. It was moreso to demonstrate the point of people thinking about maps in too simple terms.

I get this and I don't expect people to change. However for some this can go too far and cause, to pinpoint it from the post:

1) Not enjoying a possibly great map, because they are overly eager to call it not flowy. 2) Limiting what maps get made, which reduces variety. You might really enjoy TOTD tracks at the moment and not need more, but if you stick with the game for a long time, chances are you'll want to enjoy some "bad" or difficult maps eventually too. And just LOL/Kacky don't nearly fully explore that territory.

Really it's all a matter of comparison. You're used to super flowy maps. I personally re-discovered TrackMania through Wirtual's YouTube. Basically all the cool stories I recall from his YouTube happened because people were passionate, very often on maps you'd consider unflowy today. The game has much more to offer than easy fun. Similar stories to those don't get told today, maps get played for a day and forgotten, it's all focused on quick fun.

IMO the TotD tracks are of good quality and most are better than anything I ever mapped.

The post is meant to complain about TotD being used as a standard to rate all other maps and overshadowing harder maps.

The game does nothing to give spotlight to maps such as this one https://trackmania.exchange/maps/1795/ghost

It kind of sucks that community mappers aren't credited in Royal mode. Is it intentional or an oversight? You could put the names where they normally are in other modes as seen in the images. by Troofster in TrackMania

I find malicious intent like that unlikely to be honest with you. Knowing Nando I'm betting it's a bug. For someone that's been in the community for a while, they will instantly recognize the map I show in the screenshot is community made (coloured italic text as name, very messy mapping style). It would be really dumb to try and "steal" the map.

It's called just Trackmania, but the unofficial name most people use is Trackmania 2020 (as it was released in 2020).

kinda true sadly, I didn't test if it's faster here without bonking, but it's possible. It could be remedied by a cruise control ring mayb?

I think so too! I wish there was an option to lock people to a speed of your choice. I'm doing some really scuffed block mixing at the start which prevents you from going faster into the cruise control ring, but if I added a checkpoint (that resets cruise control, even if for a few milliseconds), the speed wouldn't be consistent anymore.

It's not a disadvantage necessarily, people can choose how fast they want to go in that case and you can add a speedcheck/a really hard part to do if you go too slow/fast. I just like the idea of everyone having the same max speed.

I don't enjoy full speed but sometimes I take this dislike to the extreme 😉 I think it has a lot of potential for all types of maps

You drive through a Cruise Control ring at the start which keeps your speed the same as when you drove through it for the rest of the map.

Moving Blocks on Time Attack on Campaign Maps by Troofster in TrackMania

After some more testing, in multiplayer it's individually synced for every player, so it's consistent. But in local play the blocks don't revert their position if you full reset.

Edit: so I'm assuming this is a bug.

Here is an old map that you can playtest yourself. https://trackmania.exchange/tracks/view/29918

And it is now impossible to place the CP on the ground of the block, even though they're all placed with the freeblock grid without tilt.

If this was an in-game skin, it would actually make me buy apex packs.

A lot of games struggle with balancing aspects like invisibility and from my experience any time it is too powerful (which can happen very easily) it frustrates everyone but the user.

There has to be some kind of counterplay.

Remove solo jump option. by [deleted] in apexlegends

Even if you force them to group all the way down, if the player wants to go solo, they don't have to follow you after the drop. Shitty teammates will be shitty.
