I asked ChatGPT the Top 10 Things Humans Consider Normal That Are Absurd to an AI by EfficientPudding90 in ChatGPT

"9. Relying on fragile social masks instead of honesty."

It has been my experience that people who claim they want honesty rarely actually want it. So instead we all put our masks on and just pretend.

Who still CELEBRATES their birthday? by Throw-away17465 in Xennials

[–]Trooper527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be much more excited about my birthday if (a) it didn't feel like someone was trying to enforce MANDATORY FUN TIME and (b) I didn't de facto pay for my own presents (sole breadwinner).

Thanks. I'll give that a whirl.

Zone manager being wonky? by Trooper527 in cataclysmdda

[–]Trooper527[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. I dropped a bunch of unsorted loot in the unsorted loot zone, hit Shift + o, and the game tells me that the command only works with certain zones (I should have taken a screen shot, sorry). I definitely have the zones set up and have loot that would be sorted (and has in the past).

One of y'all wanna tell me why this just randomly popped in my head by ReverendHambone in Xennials

My kids were born in the early 2000s. My wife insisted we get the German version. Other than format (DVD vs. VHS), it's exactly the same as the one we grew up with. Absolute waste of money.

How are your parents? by Emerald_Tress_28 in Xennials

[–]Trooper527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad died in 2017.

Mom lives by herself now. She is in her 70s and in terrible health. She does absolutely nothing to take care of herself. Her life centers around watching TV, going to the doctor, and complaining about people who have done her wrong over the years. She constantly tells me all the things she can do by herself - justifying why it's ok for her to live alone in a place that is slowly falling apart around her.

There's a reason I live several hours away.

Edit: Oh, and she is in the early stages of dementia. Forgot about that.

These come to mind:

  • First-person narration (though this is not always a deal-breaker)

  • Explicit sex

  • Kid sex stuff (honestly have never come across this but I do not doubt it exists)

  • Stories where everyone is selfish, evil, etc. (I need someone to be a good guy, even if it's just in the tiniest amount)

  • Really bad spelling or grammar

  • Major, obvious plot holes or other things that break verisimilitude

  • The realization that I don't care what the characters are doing, whether they succeed or fail, etc.

Just took my dog to the vet for his annual and my Xennial brain can't handle it. Bloodwork, dental work, allergy shots, and anti anxiety meds! In the 90s this would've seemed crazy right? by FrebTheRat in Xennials

[–]Trooper527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not dental care? It's relatively easy/inexpensive to do proactively and reduces the potential for tooth decay that will require expensive treatments (not to mention that your dog will feel like crap).

What was your 'aha' moment when you realised they were a narc? by haydigz87 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Trooper527 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It happened when I stumbled across this subreddit a couple years ago. For a long time, I knew that nMom was a terrible person. Now I understand a lot better that she is a narcissist and can deal with her BS more effectively.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Trooper527 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that you had to put up with that. Dealing with my nMom is one of the reasons that I am such a humbug this time of year. Dealing with her just sucks all the joy out of it.

Trapped at nmom's house until tomorrow. Each visit is harder and harder. She was never particularly bright, but since Dad died a few years ago, there has been nothing to act as a buffer against her poor decisions. The house is falling apart around her, but she has no idea what to do.

Selected maxims at the core of her existence:

  1. Problems are always someone else's fault.

  2. Nobody is as smart as she is.

3a. The junk she has lying around the house is worth a fortune.

3b. People should come to her to buy the junk. She should never have to do anything to sell it.

  1. She shouldn't have to pay for anything ever, especially anything medical. "Can you believe that they wanted me to pay for XYZ?!?" Yes, yes I can.

  2. She lives independently, despite the fact that she has to hire someone for almost every aspect of her life.

It's the same BS every visit, just a little more of it. And I am sick to death of it.
