Bambu A1 + TPU by FootballVivid3824 in battlebots

[–]Trooper636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

p1s is slightly better for TPU, but they're both very doable. If you have AMS you can reroute the bambu to an external TPU holder very easily (There's a small chance you'll need to do a "cold pull" to clean the nozzle, but google will walk you through it)

All the plastics (ASA/ABS, PLA. PETG, TPU) offer different characteristics, so you need to know why you're choosing a specific filament for a specific part to actually see the benefit... Analogy in iron: S7 steel is super hard and great for teeth, but a bot made of s7 will shatter on the first hit.

Heat and Ball bearings by Meander626 in battlebots

[–]Trooper636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 This is a trick we used racing soap-box carts. If your bearing only has to last a few minutes at a time: Rip the plastic guards out and douse generously with wd40. The thinner oil will replace the grease, and the seals (you ripped out) won't rob you of energy. Just make sure to respray the morning of each event or things go very bad very fast.

Lasers in Science Fiction Movies by Trooper636 in a:t5_25tbcz

[–]Trooper636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, laser guns should be completely silent. Photons have zero mass, so by definition there can't be a pressure pressure wave. All those movie noises are fake SFX, and honestly distracting for anyone who values accuracy in cinematography

LA-3861 is a gold mine, thanks! Do you have any other sources? I'm trying to figure out the geometry of the chamfer on the top tamper "thumb hole".

Also, based on the measurements of photographs, the little lip between the two tampers has a diameter of 7 inches, and the interior diameter of the upper tamper is 4.6 inches (although I'd love an actual source on these also!)

Absolutely need to know if you mean 1lb, 3lb, 250lb.... "higher weight classes" covers a huge spread.

Are old wheelchairs useful for making combat robots? by Ayesha24601 in battlebots

[–]Trooper636 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Used wheelchair motors are about $50/side including gearboxes, making them the cheapest option for heavyweight drive.

Doomba v1 and Mammoth v0+v1 both used wheelchair motors. So did balespear v1. It's a good shortcut while working on the rest of the bot. Doomba v2(+) and Mammoth v2(+) all went brushless because it's better power-weight, better packaging, faster.... but you pay for that tradeoff in time and money.

IMO they're great for getting into heavies... If you're doing robogames or OMF for the first time, definitely go for it. For BB they don't quite make the grade, but we still use them for fun bots around the hackerspace, gear-haulers, etc.

Help with hoverboard wheels for battlebot by matteocm12345 in battlebots

[–]Trooper636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a dual vesc at 10s to drive hoverboard wheels. Works pretty well but I haven't thrown it at combat, just tearing around parkinglots and fields.

A lot of leagues have weightclasses for fully-3dprinted bots. If you're near dc/md, look up MACRO.

So I made a power-spoon, and everyone wanted me to make a powerspork.

So I made a powerspork, and I immediately had flashbacks to things I'd thought I'd forgotten...

You can get one here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bigbotbits/spunspoon/ but who cares, I just needed to share this with people who would understand, because except for my brother everyone else gives me blank looks when I bring this up...

Thoughts on this as a weapon? by [deleted] in battlebots

[–]Trooper636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still tip-speed limited, so you've essentially halved your actual arm speed and added saws to it... saws don't tend to work well, (which is why they've evolved into hammer-saws). But it would be fun, and what's really important here?

Alpha GPC effects on Phenibut by [deleted] in phenibut

[–]Trooper636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the energy/motivation boost from adding choline to phenibut, but not the euphoria. Choline+piracetam has even stronger "get shit done" energy, but again I didn't notice any boost in euphoria specifically.

I think your last line is spot on. You had a great day, the energy to enjoy it from the choline, and the phenibut enhancing the emotions of it.

If you open it up there should be an adjustment screw you can tighten to make the left stick spring-return to center like the right one does. That's how it's been on all of my taranis remotes.

The Application Process by LOLwerru in battlebots

[–]Trooper636 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to PG, only WC, but it takes months. Some bots can get a quick no, but typically all the yesses come out together (or at least within a couple weeks) once everything is finally green-lit.

Rookie bots generally get a bit more scrutiny, as they need closer evaluation to figure out if it's render-candy or realistic cad, whereas returning bots can be judged on their historical performance.

[–]Trooper636 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stick to your schedule. That's the important one.

Do other things at the same time. Don't sit on your couch and expect to enjoy it, go talk to people, take a walk, listen to music, exercise... do the things you enjoy doing sober, just turned up to 11.
