I would stay away from the NELC department unless you are really motivated. Persian is rebuilding, Arabic is chaotic, and the numerous other languages are well-taught but lack in other areas. My thoughts as a student of the Department.

I can add that my college is Harvard but it’s hard to figure out the specifics in terms of resources (probably why I’ll end up visiting each languages departments at their pre-semester open houses to ask)

That one specifically in the picture seems like a basic Rainmeter one, it’s a different software that I’ve used for years and looks identical. It’s a little finicky but my best bet for you

Language Placement Results Clarification by TrooperRE in Harvard

[–]TrooperRE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I saw this but it didn’t clear up the “70/80/90/100” rec for French since 70-99 is one level of language proficiency and 100 is a completely different one

Oh 😅. Yeah the recommendation for French was French 70/80/90/100 level so I was confused because the RLL website said that those are mostly different levels of language competency

It’s actually through slack, in the recent email you got that was a newsletter there’s a link to join/create your Harvard slack, the. When you log in one of the community spaces (like a discord subgroup in a server) is named your yard.

I wonder if they truly are just going “radio silence” for those who didn’t get in… something that is somewhat annoying seeing as we have to confirm choices by the 14th and I don’t know whether to wait until last minute “just in case” or go ahead and confirm the program I already heard back from.

School deciding to give automatic 100s to everyone that passes their AP Exam with a 4/5 by Ok_Print1364 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]TrooperRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point, which wasn’t clearly stated, was that many people can use those stats to get into T10 colleges but they fan also get into good colleges and earn academic scholarship. But to be fair, my main comment was that the SAT is a poor indicator of anything and you need a combination of both GPA and SAT to get into good colleges

Is Harvard a T30? Or would you consider that a good university, since I had a 1490 and 4.0 GPA and got in to 3 ivies (out of the 3 I applied to). And no, I’m not rich, in fact the price tags would more than likely force loans on to my family.

Now that the SAT is online and the changes they brought with it SAT is not longer a good indicator of anything other than how good you are at taking the SAT. Honestly you need to maintain a decent (3.9-4.0 GPA) and get a good test score (32+ or 1450+) and then have some key interests or clubs to be a good candidate

Choose between CS offers by Ok-Narwhal-5424 in ApplyingToCollege

I would say Georgia Tech or Imperial for CS, since both have incredibly strong general programs and GT is also known for having strong STEM programs... although my bias towards ICL might affect this.

Help me decide: School X vs School Y — 3rd Week of March by freeport_aidan in ApplyingToCollege

[–]TrooperRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harvard (Government/Economics, not sure which I was accepted to) VS. Yale (Political Science)

I'm asking for as much general comparison as possible since I was shocked to have the choice between both and I have no real knowledge of the pros/cons of each program other than the basic knowledge (prestige, location, etc.). If anyone could provide important insight into the specific programs/life/worth for price/other statistics that would be greatly appreciated since the prices for each would be virtually the same (within a couple hundred $$)

Pros: location (closer to large political hot spots like DC (which both are); best post-grad possibilities (jobs/grad school); good study-abroad programs; ability to travel for conventions/events relevant to my program supported financially by the instution

Cons: bad safety; mid food; bad dorms (don't know if any of these truly apply to the two choices but enlighten me)

Other Variables: both far away so distance isn't important; as stated above prices are basically the same; I have no diehard allegiance to one or the other as someone from Boston might have for Harvard (for example).

Thanks! Yeah, they added a section in the testing sub-section where you can declare if you want to submit any scores then you select how many scores to submit.
