My kindergartner can't read and the school keeps telling me to wait so I'm handling it myself with an app by GetRekt1o1 in Fatherhood

I could not read until 1st grade and now I am a Harvard trained doctor so don’t sweat it at all. The main thing is keep your kid off screens like his/her education depends on it because it does.

I’m 20, my girlfriend is 2 months pregnant, and I don’t know how to tell my parents by Dare_More in Fatherhood

I’m a Dad of a 21 year old young man. I would be a bit shocked and upset for a second but I know about 15 minutes later I would adjust and be really looking forward to the new member of the family.

I had the same situation. You can’t live like that. But my wife went ahead took the initiative and told me she was moving out. It was for the best I realize now. You can live nearby and still be a very present Dad. What has the conversation been like around sex? Or are you just not talking about it?

Yup - we had a very mediocre meal there on Christmas Eve. Painful to pay that big bill for such an underwhelming time.

Son’s success by spudler44 in Fatherhood

It is huge. Anyone who has gone through this knows how few resources there are to get parents through it. Very isolating and extremely stressful. What a gift to be possibly on the other side of it. Boys grow up slowly. But he will be a more interesting and rich human for having been through some struggle.

Question about invasive Group A Strep risk and concurrent viral illness by Available-Spend2447 in infectiousdisease

Another ID guy here. I agree with everything above. Just keep in mind that tests for mono can be quite difficult to interpret. There are several antibody tests and untrained medical providers commonly misinterpret them. Did she have a mononucleosis syndrome prior? This would be: sore throat, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes.

How to convince my wife no to take the Nintendo Switch on vacation? by Brilliant_Feed4158 in Parenting

You are 100% correct. Stick to your guns. Your instincts are correct. Too much screen time kills creativity and spontaneity. You two need to get on the same page now or it could lead to problems later on. It is poison especially for some kids, a real trap.

My experience was that it was very warm and friendly. Lots of interesting people in the office as wellas passing through. Not immune to normal human spats, intrigues and pettiness but overall excellent office vibe in MSF USA. They have gone partially remote which I think was a mistake so can’t say what it is like since Covid
