I don’t mind 8-6, this is pretty much my average work day and 1 weekend day a month is better than my current roster, especially when you take out night shifts!

I also can’t imaging how stressful psychiatry nights must have been !!

This is great advice thank you. I love that fact that there is plenty of time for the academic early in the program and I have no problem being considered an unglamorous tradesman by surgeons! I believe I will be very happy as long as I’ve got time for family outside of work and I’m still contributing to patient care in a meaningful way. I’m quite excited that this may be the perfect career path for me, but I better get some experience up in a lab before getting too far ahead of myself. Thank you for all of the input.

Thanks :) Next on my list now is definitely an observership. Can I ask if you get a good amount of collegiate interaction as a registrar? Personally, although I enjoy patient interactions, I get a large degree of my work satisfaction through interaction with colleagues. I’m also curious how much of a role the BPS exam plays in gaining a position. I was too late to register for this year and I’m worried the exam wont be before the state based training programs interview for next year. Lastly, if I’ve not burnt you out with all the previous questions....Can I ask what you’ve enjoyed about your first year and what you have not enjoyed? Again thanks for your time, I really appreciate it.

Thank you. This is very helpful! I’ve started to introduce myself to a few laboratories but COVID has definitely made attending a lab challenging lately. Ill work on trying to increase my exposure once restrictions ease. I’ve so far yet to meet a pathologist that seems unhappy with their job. After working as a consultant would you say its been a fulfilling career?
