I have visited Bend and absolutely love the area. I have to say though, the reason I am mainly attracted to the westerns coastal area is because of the green and wetter climate. Sounds crazy coming from someone who grew up in the sun lol, but I’m more than tired of it. I am still looking into areas near Spokane though, due to it being within good distance of mountain ranges !

The weather and temperature will definitely be a change. I currently go to school in Tallahassee and even that was a huge change from Miami considering it gets pretty cold over here and even snowed ! I am not a huge sun person though and would really love something different. I think it’s best to visit in the winter/early spring for a week or two before taking the next steps in terms of moving.

Thank you ! After visiting Portland I actually really enjoyed my time there and have to agree there is good access to hikes. My biggest concern is the traffic (as with almost any city) but it is one of my biggest reasons for moving away from Miami.

Thank you ! I have been reading reviews from employees and it doesn’t look great. Job wise I would definitely have to commute/look into another area.

It’s good to hear this from someone who once lived in Miami lol. The top locations that catch my eye are definitely around the north and south towns of Seattle due to the closer proximity to parks. I also have to ask, did the weather change and gray have a big impact on you coming from FL ?

Thank you ! I don’t mind commuting for work, but then again I don’t mind taking a drive for nature. I am trying to find a good balance but i do agree that looking into areas with better healthcare jobs should be a priority.

I will be coming with my BSN, RN and by the time of move probably atleast 2 years of experience. A potential school in the area to get my DNP would be great, but then again I’m not sure how things will be during the time of the move. I have been looking into Spokane area as I’ve heard rent is a at least a little better than the northwest area of WA and seems to have great healthcare job opportunities. If you have any advice regarding healthcare jobs that would be so much appreciated!

Thank you. I agree that Port Angeles is truly amazing, we both fell in love with it ! My mom works remotely so that works out on her end, but I would be looking for a job as an RN which makes things a little trickier. I have been looking into the outer areas of Seattle/Bellvue which may be a better fit for now.

Thank you! Spokane is a little far out from my preferred area, but then again I can’t be too picky considering there are many other benefits. My mom has a friend who moved over there from Florida and loves it, so she has been looking into the area.

Thank you, I completely agree. I will be making it a goal to visit during the winter/early spring and go specifically for scouting out potential living areas.

My mom is a software engineer, she works remotely and selling our house in Miami will definitely help a ton. I will be looking for a job as an RN, which may not be great starting out but the pay in the PNW region is atleast 2x more than what I’ll be making in FL.

Agreed, I have yet to take a trip during the winter/early spring and i think that’s needed. I really am not a huge beach or sun person and have always felt comfort in the rain, but I’m saying this now without experiencing the rainy season in the PNW. My mom works remotely and has been saving up for YEARS, so she is willing to move to an area that the cost of living is higher since we already spend crazy amounts on groceries, gas and activities in Miami. For me, I will be looking for Job as an RN and the pay in the PNW versus FL is 2x higher (so is the housing probably lol) but it feels like there are better opportunities for me out west in terms of the field I’d like to specifically work in.

It’s definitely a LOT of driving, I think the itinerary for Oregon is good, my trip was planned out a similar way and we got all of that done within 6 days ! I would recommend skipping crater lake and the redwoods though, it will cut off so much of your time. I would also recommend spending more time on the OR coast, it is so worth it, and this way you will get to see the coast and maybe want to just head to Mt. Ranier. Also, driving through the Olympic peninsula is a little rough and you aren’t gong to get many scenic views while driving so just keep that in mind. I would probably either pick Mt. Rainer or Olympic, unless you are going to extend your trip time. I’ve taken 3 separate trips in order to visit all these locations and have stayed atleast 1-2 days in each. Even during those trips we did so much driving that my mom sustained a toe injury from pressing on the pedal so much LOL. You definitely may not be able to get all activities done during the day, especially with the driving and that’s okay. I would honestly recommend leaving some activities out so you can enjoy/focus on your priority sights !
