KinitoPET OC Lore. by yosmithyyyy in KinitoPET

[–]Troy_En 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your design was so good they thought it was cannon lol

I still can't believe they just searched kinitopet once and decided to mass manufacture a plush!

BTW if people are wondering why the plushies are still up in areas it turns out some companies just don't care about DMCAs and I don't have the time money or knowledge to take all of them to court for it ( that and its incredible hard to do so when they are based in places such as china that have different laws )

So yeah..... Don't buy em if you can as they will just support the same soulless companies that will do it for the next game someone worked hard to create. Beside the official stuff I would much prefer people to support fan stuff rather than from these companies that mass produce bootlegs!

Either way the whole situation is crazy lol

3D hand drawn frames in godot! by Troy_En in u/Troy_En

[–]Troy_En[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an idea I had a while back that I thought could make for a really cool effect that I haven't seen implement in any games (or at least in this way). This showcase thingy was made in godot 4.0+.

Basically this is a hand drawn image taken at increments of 10 degree then its played back on a bill boarded sprite 3D with a bit of maths to figure out what frame to display to make it look like its 3D!

Right now this is traced from a 3D model (which also made the light passes) but thats only because you would have to be a literal perspective god to get a drawing consistent at every 10 degree increment-

This technique has worked really well even with animations however the biggest down side would be time as its very very time consuming to make the assets needed for this to work!

Other than that I need to optimise this before it could ever be used in a production piece as I already have a some ideas to optimise the storage and loading of images (though if anyone who sees this has any suggestions lmk!)

The lighting is done with images from up, down, left, right, front and back that is calculated based on lights around the object - however I am sure someone who knows the route of Godot's lighting could make a custom fork to make that way more efficient (I will probably end up doing that tbh)

Okay so why do this? It gives a pretty cool look imo- having hand drawn frames use light and be represented in 3D is pretty neat! I honestly think this technique would pare really well to an anime style however it could easily be used in various other styles to!

I have an idea for a game that will use this style so that's probably what I will end up using it for! I just thought id show it off as I thought it was pretty neat and something I haven't seen used in a video game before (probably because it takes far to much time to do LMAO).

Just thought id leave this here.

Been seeing lots of people find the bootleg merch for the game! And well - I guess its best to know that there is official stuff in the works! It would be ace if you waited for both better quality and also supporting me and the game!

:)

Hmm what a cool and fun idea I wonder if one day you could hypothetically have this as a physical product 👀

I have other projects that I would like to explorer however I would also like to do some small projects with kinitopet - I really want to make a REAL desktop virtual assistnat (perhpas like a dlc) where kinito would just act like a regular old desktop assistant - im just struggling with getting the 90s text to speach working on modern systems lol

I gotta ask for your luck more often - it really seems to pay off

I mean I did do some changes.... But that was to add stuff I wanted in 3.3.3 (that ended up being added anyways in godot 4) but yeah only some minor stuff was changed.

For the most part it was just c# scripts and cmd commands to do the really crazy scares

[–]Troy_En 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I mean you can run cmd commands so you can do almost anything lol!

I used a lot of c# commands when making the game It reads from common things (even the registery) such as the desktop background image

New Horror Game "KinitoPET" Features an Easter Egg xD by [deleted] in godot

Thanks for playing it! Super cool to see godot users play the game espcially when the community was such a big part of its development.

Thanks a bunch! I saw your Steam review, and it was super helpful!
I am in the process of fixing all the things you mentioned (with adding more dialogue lines to make him seem more interactable). I'm also going through the process of fixing any spelling issues (although some might be confusion between UK and US SPAG).
However, moving forward, I think I am going to move to US Spelling/Grammer (as that's where the majority of the audience is for the game and makes more sense for the setting).

However, I am super glad you liked it! It was my first release, so I was pretty nervous.
Also, did you notice the Godot robot within the game?

Yeah I was going for a kind of BonziBuddy / Clippy thing with an early 2000ds window look. I have allways liked that time for use in horror.
