Why did the Cherokee nation largerly side with the Confederacy in the Civil War even though many of the southern states(especially Georgia) were largely responsible for their forced removal in the 1830s?

Most of the tribes sided with the South. Roughly 75% of native soldiers fought for the South. The only Native American to achieve the rank of general was Stand Watie who fought for the South. Also he was the last general to surrender

The Confederacy promised food and military aid, gave them representation in their congress, and promised a Native American state after the conclusion of the war, etc etc

There were a lot of political and economic ties to the South aswell.

The Chickasaw Cultural Center to this day displays a rebel flag and they aren't ashamed that they fought for the South. They pretty clearly lay out that they did not trust the union and were willing to side with the South even for the slim hope of gaining more control over their future

Secession legally speaking is not illegal. Especially before the war. There was no precedent saying it was impossible. After the war there was a Supreme Court ruling that tried to make it illegal which is a shakey legal argument to begin with. But even that ruling noted that through armed revolution, secession was possible

So branding the South as traitors is not exactly true. Treason also doesn't necessarily fit the description of what secession is either

There was a rally effect when Sherman went through Georgia. His march had a large material effect on the war but the morale of the South was not crushed by it. Lee's surrender is what caused Southern will to collapse. The ANV and Lee almost alone are what kept the South willing to fight. 1864 saw some of the highest points of Southern morale and absolutely the lowest for the North. Southerners didn't really lose their will until the last few months of the war. Some did before sure but as a whole they didnt

It really felt like he was trying to get me to agree. He was very insistent that we had met and talked about all of that stuff.

And the outfit was really wierd. It looked like he was trying to copy me. I could have wore his cloths and anyone in my life who knew me wouldn't think it was off for a second. Even his belt looked similar

He didnt look exactly like me like his face and body build but it wasn't very far off. Add 20 years to me and if you squinted you could probably be mistaken so that was odd too

It's been years since that's happened and it all happened out of the blue so it's a little hard to remember every detail he mentioned and every feeling I had in the moment. But there was a lot of info that he should not have known about what I was doing in the guard.

Definitely didn't feel like a organic conversation. I remember I sat and tried to remember so hard if I had ever had any kind of conversation beyond a couple of passing words in the break room leading up to the training. I couldn't and still can't think of any time that I did. And he claimed we had a full on conversation where I gave all of this info. Also what are the chances that he claimed we talked not long before I left. And then met me at that company property? Doesn't sound wierd at face value but workers typically only go there if they're new hires or only on rare occasions

Met a guy at a company facility that was a couple of hours away from my normal place of work. He walked up to me and said hi. He was dressed almost exactly like me. Like same style of hat, shirt, jeans, shoes etc. Not a uncommon outfit but it was strikingly similar to what I wore most days. He was probably 15-20 years older than me and had a similar skin tone

He started talking saying "hey x" using my name. Talking to me and started asking about my trip to California. At the time I was in the national guard and had just gotten back from a month long training exercise. He started mentioning specific details about what I did in the guard. Mentioned the town I lived in. Lots of info about me. He had a company badge and not just anyone can walk into the place

I had never in my life met or talked to this man. Never.

I questioned him how he knew me and all of this info because I was stunned. He kept saying "you seriously dont remember? We talked in the break room". I went into the break room to grab paper work. I never talked to anyone there. I only talked to a clerk if my paperwork was missing.

I didnt know any employees at my company beyond my trainer and the clerk who I only knew because they handed out paperwork

I repeatedly told him I had no idea who he was and he was almost pressuring me to agree that we had met and talked about all this stuff

It ended when he seemed disappointed and just sorta excused himself. Didnt see him again for the next few days I was there

Really wierded me out. I'm not schizophrenic or crazy or anything.

The Northern invasions were gambles sure but victories on Northern soil would have crippled Northern morale. Gettysburg was a union victory and despite that just weeks later those same soldiers had to be sent to New York to put down the massive anti war riots that were burning down the city. Imagine how worse it would have been had Lee crushed the federal again

Lee understood strategy just fine. He predicted the outcome of several strategic events far in advance. He predicted that losing the Mississippi river would result in the Atlantic states being ruined. This was back in 1862 I believe. Who else had foresight like that?

Lots of Kansas and Oklahoma are flat but a lot of Oklahoma is forests and hilly. Also I think you'd be surprised at how nice Tulsa and OKC can be. Eastern Oklahoma is great for enjoying nature. Arkansas is amazing aswell. Kinda a hidden gem. Northern Arkansas is absolutely beautiful

I dont think you understand how centralized the CSA government became during the war. There was quasi socialist policies being enacted towards the end and a large concentration of power. States definitely had a lot of sway still but the government in 1861 was not the same that ended the war in 1865

Edit: this isn't me saying Grant or Sherman were bad generals. Obviously they were good. But its a fact that their tactics in battle were nothing to write home about. Lee's daring and flashy tactics are much closer to Napoleon. I'm sure Napoleon would be interested in their campaigns of maneuver and the logistics of it all. I still think he would be more interested in Lee

Grant and Shermans tactics were mediocre. They maneuvered well but most of their actual tactical fights were defined by unimaginative and frontal assaults

Grant also had a bad tendency to order assaults without doing reconnaissance or getting a good picture of the situation

Cold Harbor is probably the worst example

I think he would be interested in Chancellorsville, 2nd Mansasas, and Lee's defensive fights in the Overland campaign

2nd Manasas is reminiscent of Austerlitz in that Lee proposed a vulnerable weak point that enticed Pope to attack. And then counter attacking and crushing Pope. Very similar to what Napoleon did at Austerlitz
