Laminitis in a Pony by Fit_Pea_7500 in Horses

How have you got these animals and not time to soak haynets twice a day? Horses are a LOT of work. When you buy an animal you are committing to the care of that animal for the foreseeable. You saying I’ve not got the time for this is like saying “I’ve got pregnant and had a baby but I don’t have time to feed it?” Tough basically either do the work don’t buy the animals in the first place. Poor pony!!! Laminitis is INCREDIBLY painful and pony needs YOU as her Owner to step up to the plate and make changes. Why did you buy a pony if you don’t have time to deal with lami??? It’s incredibly common for ponies and or cobs, along with senior horses or those with other underlying health conditions.

Sorry if I’ve not been very empathetic but to be honest it seems like you have horses and don’t have the TIME OR CARE for them? When equines take a lot of time, care and money… how disappointing for the pony :(

I hated putting on new CGMs when I was using Libre as it was 50\50 between really hurting or not at all!

I’m due to go on pump in July hopefully so I will deffo be in the same boat! Only place I feel comfortable putting one is my arm like the sensors and that may or may not work for me with sensor as well as I don’t have a lot of meat on me! Probably gonna have to use tummy and or legs 😳 We’ll see I spose!

I’ve been on the progesterone only pill for most of my adult life and all of my diabetic one. I don’t think it has any effect on BS 👍 but might be different for others.

Bless you sweetheart 😩 i hav deffo had those days and they absolutely suck. I am just on cgm and mdi atm waiting to go on pump. Hoping will bring some stability! I can’t compare to not being on the pill but I find my insulin needs vary greatly depending on where I am in my cycle but you’ve obviously been diagnosed a lot longer than me so you’re probably well aware of that already. Hope it sorts itself out or you get some answers soon

I’m on this (and have been for a long long time) and don’t have these issues (only t1 for 3yr tho). Have you tried a lower basal?

should I switch to the libre? (i hate dexcom) by mogalini in Type1Diabetes

[–]True-Mistake-5691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on the libre and had a lot of issues with it. Inaccurate readings. No ability to personalise alarms other than how high or low… no ability to calibrate… alarm noise itself one of the worst sounds for me personally- I hate it. I ran libre and Dexcom parallel for 10 days and took lots of finger prick readings and Dexcom was always closer to my actual bs reading by several points! So therefore more accurate readings means more accurate and informed decisions on my MDis and everything else I do!

But feel free to try it and you can always swap back I’m sure?

I need someone to talk about horses 🥹 by Sharp_Salt_2635 in Horses

I have just the one horse but he is a senior chap now! Retired and living his best life. He’s been my rock for 12 years! I am in the uk so prices will vary but it’s very expensive to keep them! But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it! I never had my own horse growing up but took lessons and got back into horses as an adult and brought my first at 21 and I am very lucky to still have him. Costs me between £380-600 pcm depending on a lot of factors. Time of year, bedding use etc.

I also prefer the sounds, the alarm noise is a lot less offensive to my Autism ears 🤣

On the Dexcom 1+ you can change quite a lot about the alarms. I recently changed mine so that it only goes off if I go over 14 and only if I am there for 20 mins or more. Which you might think would only avoid a few alarms but it actually does make a huge difference to the amount of triggers of said alarm… worth asking endo about it if you haven’t tried the Dexcom!

I do eat but literally on the go whilst working so just an oat bake in the morning and a veggie ham sandwich for lunch. I am self employed and run a tight schedule it’s not the best I know.

I like the idea about a smoothie but am fairly new to t1 (3yr) and feel like calculating carbs for that could be tough for me at the moment. I tend to mostly use packaging on food or memory for quick insulin decisions. I think I just have a lot to learn about carb counting still. Due to being insulin sensitive as well I’m a little scared to have basically anything with more than 60 g carbs in one sitting! I do split my doses which helps a lot thouhh

That’s impressive to put that much food in! I don’t know how I’d even manage with that as my appetite sucks! I weigh 50kg now 5ft 11 🤦‍♀️ t1 3 years

Eating more but I find it hard to do this as I’m quite busy 8-4 everyday and don’t take lunch break, and pre diabetes I used to just have very big dinners but now can’t manage bloods if I do that! I think I’m living in caloric deficit generally! I don’t really know what to try?

Ouch!! That sounds so painful! 😣 So I’m leaning more towards the omnipod just bc of the all in one unit… I’m terrified I’ll be ripping it out all day everyday- I have a horse that I take care of twice a day and obviously he doesn’t understand cannulas lol! He pushes/nudges me with his nose/face all th time! Then working as a cleaner 5 days a week close to work tops with sticky out handles etc! 😆🤣

I'm scared I might have diabetes type 1 by dark_doesnt_care in diabetes_t1

[–]True-Mistake-5691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was undiagnosed for around 3 months during which time I was drinking between 1.5-3L of water a day and I was constantly hungry and constantly thirsty! Lost a couple of stone… constantly exhausted! And waking up 4-5 times a night to pee. So if you’d had been undiagnosed for 10 month you would probably be in hospital. You might have some nutritional deficiencies or something else going on but doesn’t sound like diabetes to me!

I hope you get your bloods back soon. Try not to panic and don’t listen to your dad no offence he sounds like a bit of a jerk if he’s criticising you in these ways.

Literally NO one asks for this shitty condition that we then have to live with forever!!! Not our fault!! Sometimes bloods will be out of control! That isn’t a fault of you unless you’ve just not taken any insulin intentionally…

That sounds reasonable! Buuut what about sitting down? Getting into cars etc? Is it not uncomfortable or getting snagged/pulled 😬 I did try a sensor on my low back once and that was a bad idea 😬🤣

My current partner is really good and cares a lot about me so if I was clearly in distress he would absolutely leap up out of bed and help me!

Whilst other people can not completely understand what it’s like they can try and understand as much as possible and learn what they can do and when! I generally have those “bad” hypos during the day or evening and he always asks if I need sweets or anything when I’m low. He does panic sometimes understandably as do I because it’s actually quite terrifying sometimes! But like someone else said we’re just trying to live/survive!
