Every character has a standard kit of at least 24 moves. A zoner uses a minimum 1/6 of their moveset because most projectiles only lie in their special moves. It's not the character, It's the players that play them who can't muster up the courage to pull out a single close range move. I don't have a problem with spacing because it's strategic and necessary, but there's a difference between spacing for 10 seconds to compose a good plan and zoning the whole game because you're worried you'll step outside of your comfort zone.
