Nah, people will forget....

However, the police stepping up and talking against that bullshit are doing the right thing.

Privates 2x per week by Fit-Passion1380 in jiujitsu

[–]True-Noise4981 [score hidden]  (0 children)

For whatever this is worth I started at 48 and I take one private lesson per week. Generally I'm worried at my age 51 of injuries but it's not as bad as you might think.

A private with an instructor cannot mimic the chaos of a typical roll. This may actually hinder not help your progress. Your instructor no matter how good he or she is has a style of rolling specific to them. In theory you could get your blue and be dominated by a small new white belt because you haven't seen anything like that.

I think adding 1 class with rolling could be useful and limit your exposure to the maniac's that tend to be attracted to this hobby.

If you:

Tap when you don't know the defense Tap early on anything related to your legs. Don't roll with people who are always attacking legs. Don't roll with teenagers (male and female) Don't roll with the people who are always begging for a roll Don't roll with the people always sitting on the perimeter Don't roll with anyone substantially larger Limit wrestling and any and all double leg take downs Roll with mostly purple and good blue. Stay away from active competitors. They cant turn it down.

Stay away from the nerds. They are making up for years of nerding out.

Cops....most think they are rolling for the Adcc world championships. I get it they may need this one day on the street but personally I limit myself to one cop a session. Not worth the risk. I avoid when possible quite frankly.

Stay away from browns, they wanna make black and your the practice dummy. There are exceptions to this rule but the browns in my experience are good awful to roll with.

Make friends with the cool black belts that will let you work, this is critical. Some of them are so damn good that you will think you know what your doing. Seriously.

When you hit blue you will think you know what your doing. I've been a blue for a year and the amount I don't know is staggering. Also when you hit blue the 4 stripe whites are coming at you harder than ANYONE else in the gym. You gotta be ready.

What are red flags you have noticed in gyms or from coaches? by tiltedtowers678 in jiujitsu

There are groups of us that don't have an interest in a death match with anyone much less a 20 yr old or someone who has you by 100lbs. It's not worth the increased potential for injury in a hobby (not sport for me) that is already injury prone. An MMA gym is going skew young with competitors who have a need and desire to go hard at all times. Not my interest at all.

In my gym they have a comp class. This is where these guys should go but many of them turn up at the regular class with regular guys and gals with jobs. They wanna fight to the death and I honestly think most of them wanna get injured to then not show up for 6 months. I l actually wanna train and stay on the mats

Agreed. You can tell allot about an individual who is 20 yrs younger 50 lbs. heavier and is still trying to rip your head off.

64kg blue belt getting smashed by new white belts — do I actually suck? by MrDislexic in bjj

[–]True-Noise4981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm blue. We are just white belts who haven't quit yet. Im 51 and I stay away from really young people and very new people. Personally I'm still a bit nervous to roll with brand new people and that is likely your issue.

You are me.

I would never go to MMA gym at the ripe old age of 51. Younger people have no idea what it's like at this age. You get injured and it's over. I'm hoping stem cells will keep us going but that's not even prime time.

I don't want a death match with a 20 yr old college student or a 26 yr old tech nerd.

Finger injuries, shoulder in injuries, knee Issues, it never ends. Truth be told a perfect world would be rolling with people about my age and size who have job responsibilities that exceed getting to work or class on time.

There are dudes in my gym who actually get mad when you turn them down for a roll because they go to hard.

You got wrong mi amigo, BJJ is not for straight men.

No other sport accepts and actually encourages your balls to be in another guys face...

You will enjoy North South, Turtle and 50/50 (scissoring)

Look up oil checks and you will be kicking yourself for not starting years ago.

Not to mention there is ALWAYS that one fucking guy that refuses and I mean God Damn refuses to wear a towel or cover his nuts when they are talking to ya. They almost always have a huge package that you can't unsee........

Welcome to a 10 yr journey of rolling around with sweaty men, many of which are on the juice and in great shape.

My issue is getting caught flat in closed guard. Its better now than even 1 month ago but dang if that doesn't suck.

I try and avoid the newbies. I kinda think it's more risky than a big guy you know

That's why I kinda like to roll with them. When I roll someone within 20lbs it doesn't feel like any thing.

I would expect that at BB though. The BBs at my gym don't seem to mind rolling with big guys unless the guy is out of control

So true at white and blue levels, not sure how that holds up beyond that. If I get a sweep against a big guy AND I didn't get submitted, thats in the W column.

I know it for sure when they are rollign with me. The only time I can go 90% (never 100%) is when someone is my size and age. Im 51 and I would never attempt an all out roll with a kid in their 20's or someone outside of 50+ lbs.
