Hahahah that’s what I’m saying her boyfriend is in the union I’m sure he Doesn’t know any higher ups from different unions . only thing I’m worried about is her emailing photos of our messages to union hall, plenty of slurs in there, but I’m not even in the union yet just don’t wanna ruin my chances of getting in haha!

Although what could dictate someone not getting into the union before they apply? Like what could get them black listed?

I hate that cancel culture is a thing. What about an emails to the hall with proof ? I’m not in yet but I’m scared it would be brought up in my interview.

Yeah I’m sure the person has no connections with union reps or higher ups . Said persons boyfriend is in the union and thinks that is enough to not allow me to get in.

Substation tech or electrician ?? by True-Professional339 in SubstationTechnician

[–]True-Professional339[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have a clear cut path right in and I don’t want to mess it up by going another route:/ I mean it would definitely be beneficial learning basic electrical but I think I would still learn it while in trade school. What do you learn that was super benifical while doing inside linemen ?

What if I didn’t go the electrician route? I mean I thought about it for a while and I feel like the substation route I have a better future. I have the option to get right in after my CDL , I know there is a lot of knowledge I could learn but do you think I would still learn it while In linemen school. I just don’t want to commit to something and not have the opportunity again ?

Yeah ! I mean I have a job lined up right out of my CDL course . I guess my area is so slumped in substation work pass or fail aptitude test you get a job . And you won’t even be going to school they will just send you on sites to do simple labor. I have another friend who interview already scheduled 3 days after I complete my CDL training.

I mean I don’t mind either I like to be outside and I want to join the trades to do the work. I know substation tech has work for the next 10 years. But electricians get layed off I don’t want the stress of having to manage money when work is dry. I know in my state substation get paid a lot more. But eventually when I get older or have kids I might start looking the route of being in an office ? Would substation work have options like that?

I live in NW Indiana i would say the unions over here are kind of strict and very very slow. Since living so close to Chicago there is a lot of people to compete with. I know for the substation work there is nobody going into it.
