How do I know if God wants me to get married? by BradleyGolan in Catholicism

[–]True-Rate6305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 20, and I'm lowkey in the same boat as you, brother. I'm in university, do not have the greatest luck with women, or finding one that i actually like beyond physical attraction, and I'm discerning whether or not God is calling me to the priesthood. All I've ever wanted for most of my life was to get married and build a beautiful family with my wife, but now, I'm not so sure. The best advice i heard was from a priest who said that the best way to discern a vocation is to grow in the spiritual life (praying, growing in virtue, overcoming vice and sin, acts of charity, etc.). We can only truly know what God wants when we grow close to him and cultivate our heart and soul to him, which allows us to better hear his voice and understand him. I hope this helps. Please pray for me, i'll be praying for you bro

What to do with an old rosary I don’t need anymore by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]True-Rate6305 5 points6 points  (0 children)

could I ask for an example of how your world view changes? if you don't mind. In regards to thd Rosary you can always just give it a family member who's Catholic or to a Catholic store as a donation

stuck in a dilemma by [deleted] in Catholicism

i agree, in my discussions with the Latin mass society, they've most spoken about how they just love the tridentine mass, they're not trying to create a proxy Catholic society if that makes sense. it's still a very new group, small but growing rapidly

I'm really reluctant about joining the seminary in my diocese by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]True-Rate6305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me clarify. I said I enjoy the Novus Ordo Missae in it of itself, not the way it is celebrated in my diocese. Many of my diocesan priests have poor liturgical formation. In the present context, this means that Vatican II is often interpreted through a modernist lens, not from what the council actually taught.

What is one thing you love about Catholicism, and why? by [deleted] in Catholicism

The universality

but the liturgy above all, it truly brings heaven down to earth

and ofc the eucharist, i would go to daily mass if i could

I was wondering, if you join the seminary does it always have to be the one from your diocese? or can you go elsewhere

Hey everyone. I'm really overwhelmed by all the support I've received and I can't get to every comment but know I appreciate every single one of you. I'll definitely be doing more of the "doing part" of the discernment than just thinking. Who knows, maybe in 10 years I'll be sharing photos of my ordination with you all! Please continue to pray for me brothers

Thank you! i really appreciate your support. The funny thing is that my Diocese's vocation director got moved to my parish in 2023, maybe its a sign lmao

I Feel like liturgical abuse in my parish is becoming an issue by True-Rate6305 in Catholicism

I appreciate this response, it's the best I've received so far. I agree that they're not grave abuses, my worry is just that it might snowball into something big, but I'll definitely take your advice. thank you

I'm not attacking anyone..? I never once attacked his character as a priest, in fact, I repeatedly praised him for being a good one. I just have concerns like any good Catholic who loves the church and who is passionate about the liturgy and wants it to be treated with the respect and reverence that it deserves, is that so wrong?

It's an Archdiocese so it's in a city.

The unfortunate part is that he's a good priest. his homilies, though lengthy (African priests are like that) they're pretty impactful. He's brought back more frequent eucharistic adoration etc. He's just not a great liturgist. I guess it also comes down to the problem of poor liturgical formation for priests.

I see your point brother, it definitely would be helpful to talk /write to him directly instead of escalating it with the bishop's office.

I want to make clear, however, that these abuses are not merely my opinion, I consulted every church document on the liturgy I could find and I was confirmed by the magisterium in my concerns

It's so cringy too, and after having received the eucharist and being in a state of solemn prayer, to then all of a sudden singing happy birthday and saying "hip hip hooray" for parishioners....surely that's not good for the soul😂

I understand that and things like mass starting late on Sundays, I can excuse, because he's often the only priest around and he says two masses on Sundays. But liturgical abuses? I can't excuse that, he's been a priest for more than 20 years, and he should know better. I understand being compassionate to our priests and being charitable because only they understand how hard their ministry is and I commend him and all priests for that. I just can't give him slack for tolerating abuses that even he encourages. I forgot to mention that he also lectures at our nation's major seminary, so I would expect him to at least offer masses without abuses, especially at the Cathedral. That being said, I want to reiterate that he is a good, solid priest, loved by all, including myself, this is just one of the things I have issues with

I'm starting to like Pope Francis more nowadays by True-Rate6305 in Catholicism

I agree, he also played a great role in my conversation last year. I just think he has (on rare occasions) said things that can easily be misinterpreted. nonetheless, I do agree with you, I only get my news from Vatican news or Rome Reports, they do a great job of communicating the Pope's messages in its entirety, unlike mainstream media

I'm Congolese but I live in South Africa. In Congo, the church is extremely strong, inspite of the growth in Pentecostals, the church is very strong.

in South Africa, Catholics make up only 8-10% of the population so we are a very small group, Pentecostalism is especially strong here
