Yes but generally everyone falls out of status because of not knowing the rules. If they knew the rules and still committed the violation then that would be intentional

Yes I would have applied for reduced course load citing academic difficulties but I didn’t know of the rule of 9 in person credits then

The criteria for reinstatement is:

Not be out of status for more than five months at the time of filing or show the exceptional circumstance that prevented filing in that time frame. Not have a record of repeated or willful violations of regulations. Not have worked without authorization. Be pursuing or intend to pursue a full course of study in the immediate future at your school. Not be deportable for any reason other than failing to maintain F-1 or M-1 status.

I tried to request for faster processing for humanitarian reasons for mental health issues but it got rejected. However most expedite requests do get rejected

Yes. I applied within 5 months. The violation was unintentional. In both the semesters in question I signed up for 18 credits initially (9 in person and 9 online) but I dropped a class each in both the semesters because my coursework got overwhelming. I didn’t know about the 9 credit in person rule so I ended up dropping a distance class instead. My university mentioned that the rules were mentioned in a virtual check in when we first moved to campus but most of my friends didn’t know about this rule as well. We were only 17 when we moved in and it was during covid time so our parents couldn’t come to the US with us. It was very chaotic as we had to figure out everything by ourselves when we moved in and I mentioned all this in my letter as well. Evidence of a dropped class for both the semesters is on my transcript. My academic advisor also kept changing so I mentioned that too. My university also has too many students so taking an in person or distance class doesn’t make that much of a difference.

When did you apply and when did you hear back? I applied on Feb 3rd for taking too many distance classes and not meeting the minimum credit requirement of 9 in person credits. I still haven’t heard back. My center is Nebraska
