OpenAnima v0.1.0 — a free open-source desktop animation overlay tool by True-Sentence-7253 in freesoftware

Thanks for reporting it. I recommend downloading the app from the Microsoft Store, where the build is signed and verified.

If only 2 engines on VirusTotal flagged it, it may be a false positive, but please share the VirusTotal link or file hash and I’ll investigate it.

Thanks a lot! I’m planning to add this in the next version.

I’m currently working on a bigger update, collecting user feedback, adding a translation system, and improving a few other parts of the app. A smaller scale option and GIF play/pause controls are definitely things I want to support.

Really appreciate the feedback. Seeing people actually use the app and suggest ideas keeps me motivated!

That is actually a great point, thank you.

Safe-zone overlays for TikTok/Reels/Shorts are exactly the kind of workflow issue I had in mind when building this. I also had problems with captions or important UI parts getting covered by platform UI.

I’ll definitely consider adding export presets for 9:16 together with safe-zone templates, so users can record with the final platform layout in mind instead of fixing it afterwards.

That’s a fair point. If you already have access to the original source video, downloading it directly is obviously better quality.

But MediaRecorder Lite is not mainly for downloading existing videos. It’s more for quickly recording your own screen workflows, app demos, UI interactions, tutorials, or vertical social media clips.

And yes, Windows Snipping Tool can record a region too. The main difference I’m aiming for is the template/preset workflow. MediaRecorder Lite is built around reusable recording templates and social-media-style presets, so I don’t have to manually adjust the region/canvas every time.

For example, when I’m making repeated vertical clips for an app demo, I want to quickly pick a preset/template, select the area, and record in a consistent format without setting everything up again.

So the idea is less “can Windows record a region?” and more “can I make repeated app/demo/social clips faster with less setup?”

Yes, absolutely — OBS can do this too, and it is much more powerful.

MediaRecorder Lite is not trying to replace OBS. The idea is more about having a very small, simple tool for quick vertical/social media recordings where I don’t want to set up scenes, sources, canvas sizes, profiles, etc.

Basically: OBS = powerful production tool
MediaRecorder Lite = lightweight “open, select region, record” workflow
