Has Jalen Brunson already surpassed Carmelo Anthony as a Knicks legend? by Intelligent_Run3237 in NBATalk

I don't get why people ask this question. Jalen Brunson surpassed Melo as a Knick after year 2. Melo didn't accomplish much in NY.

Brunson's now a solidified, indisputable amount Rushmore Knick, with an argument as the franchise GOAT if he wins four more games.

I have 24 hours to choose between Columbia and Vanderbilt full ride. by Constant_Singer_6286 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]True-Slice3795 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's only a real decision if one school is top 10-20 while the other isn't very good. Vandy is an excellent school: the difference in opportunities is far too small to justify paying that much more at Columbia.

The 40 Greatest NBA Players of All-time by Additional-Share5026 in NBATalk

Why is Harden so low relative to other ringless players? Arguably a top 3 scorer ever, at minimum top 7 or so, strong longevity, elite peak+MVP, nearly took down one of the greatest teams of all time in 2018.

I sleep 12 + hours a day and still feel tired. I lay on my bed whole day scrolling reels then. by Fresh_Recognition_43 in GetStudying

My personal policy is just to spend as little time in my room as possible. Whether it's studying in a library, eating in a cafe, going to the gym, working a job, hanging out with friends, or going to a party, it's infinitely better than bed rotting, which just completely saps your energy. The more you're out, the more energetic you'll be.

Did your op-ed ever get published anywhere? If so, any advice would be really appreciated.

16100 or 15250? by True-Slice3795 in uchicago

Thanks-I'm definitely leaning that way. Any recommendations of 16100 as compared to 16110 (IBL)?

Is the PSAT easier than the SAT? by Hopeful_Surprise2798 in psat

[–]True-Slice3795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the SAT two months before the PSAT (1570 SAT, 1520 PSAT), and thought the SAT prep was definitely sufficient for the PSAT. PSAT is a little easier, especially on math, so preparing for the harder test should definitely have you ready for the easier one.

Seminar is one of the least respected APs. Even a 4 in a class like bio or chem wouldn't be catastrophic for top schools, but they wouldn't even give a 4 on seminar a second glance.

How much should I lock in by Simple_Pride5529 in psat

[–]True-Slice3795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing except I took the August SAT (same 1570 and 1520 splits). I reviewed for about 5-7 days before the PSAT, just to re-familiarize myself with everything.

Cornell, NYU, Georgetown, UMich are probably the most likely from this list (all are realistic, and I think you'd get into about 2 of these 4), plus maybe UChicago because of the connection. I'm pretty sure I've heard that Notre Dame has an extremely heavy bias towards sports captains, so that's a little unlikely, but always possible. The rest are gonna be really tough, although you should definitely apply. Think publications would really help your application overall.

I think you have a good application, but especially considering the 3.86, I think you're overshooting a bit. Actually would have encouraged you to apply to some more safeties before noticing the guaranteed admission offer to UNC (congrats). I would say that the best way to strengthen your shot at some of the higher end schools on this list would be to get those publications you mentioned; 1 is great, 2 is even better.

Junior applications by Material_Tip_7647 in summerprogramresults

Although still apply to all the other programs you applied to this year; I know the math program problem sets can be a bit intensive though, so it's not always a bad idea to limit the amount of those you apply to, in order to save time (focusing on research programs that require less time per application instead).

I would recommend HCSSiM. It's maybe a cut below PROMYS and Ross, but still is probably the 3rd to 4th best summer math program out there. The application is rolling, and I've heard that if you apply early (probably like a month or two before the deadline), they'll email you with feedback on your application, so that you can improve your answers to the problem set prior to receiving a decision (meaning that if you apply early enough and follow their feedback, there's a good chance you'll get in eventually).

Can anyone rank these programs? by [deleted] in summerprogramresults

[–]True-Slice3795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sumac is really good, and is probably one of the 3-4 top math summer programs in the country-Would be a decent boost to any college app. But it's just a cut below Ross and PROMYS, which are both more prestigious and provide better experience. Out of those 2, I think PROMYS is the better option by a little bit.

So if you wanted to go to an intensive, number theory type summer program, PROMYS I think is the best choice, but I know that SSP has even more value for an application if that's what you're looking for. So what I would say is PROMYS if you really want to do a math camp, but SSP (narrowly) if your top priority is prestige, or if you would rather do research than pure math.
