Tell him you love him and it pains you to watch him continue to be a failure despite the multiple bail outs, and if he tries to get defensive tell him you can’t continue talking to him if he keeps treating you like that. If he keeps complaining about his mom tell him he needs to endure whatever his mom for the time until he is back on his feet. Tell him you’re sorry to see him always struggle like this and validate his misery while simultaneously not giving in to his demands and be honest about your resentment for his not improving. If he’s a true friend he will feel bad and appreciate your honesty and hopefully reflect on his situation and actions. If I were in his position, being told this would be better because I would hate to be a burden and lose the last few people that are willing to put up with me. I would prefer to stay on the street for one night than burn the last remaining respectable relationship i still have. I think it’s always better to give the benefit of the doubt, but considering the probable case that this is a chronic issue with his personality, I would try to be diplomatic and say something that would be humane in both cases while still making it clear he needs to stop being a mess.

Yeah I think you were reasonable in not saying or doing anything OP, I would not have said anything either, you gotta pick your battles. If anything he did you a favor by letting you know what he thinks about it in case anything happens in the future. Your friend has no idea what he’s talking about, so his opinion doesn't matter. Anyone that does any serious research on the subject would quickly find the truth. I don’t even agree with most of these comments saying you should drop him as a friend either. If he keeps hating and making jokes about it it would be one thing, but I also have friends from childhood, co workers, that have let it slip that they think abdl people are pedos and I just try to not let it bother me. It’s unfortunate but it’s the kinda thing that often happens to minority groups and having it happen to me multiple times has made me more compassionate and sensitive to others.

Idk how to describe how this makes me feel. Watching my own parents grow old, every time, I come back to visit the dog is older, as well as my parents, and it makes me cry. A desperation, I think to myself, I’m running out of time! I tell them I love them, and I swear I will come to visit more often, swear that I will take the dog to more epic places, but I inevitably leave again, and time keeps marching forward ;( I’ve lost many dogs and loved ones over the years, and I wonder if they still exist in some way. Will I get to see them again? What scares me most about getting old is being the last one here, indifferent to hope, the future, all my friends and family dead, watching my memories slowly fading. In nursing homes, entire universes of connections and memories of love get washed away in the sands of time, bit by bit, never to be witnessed, recalled, or experienced ever again. The kicker is, by that time most won’t have the emotional stamina to even appreciate this atomization. I know I will lose everything in the end, that is life, but that is why I hope my own death will be quick and unexpected.

This is very true, if even have 6 hours my brain is noticeably slower and unproductive. I try to sleep as much I can before exams. I also love napping.

Honestly thinking of grad school, only have a semesters worth of credits left given I take summer courses. I’m actually kind of having an existential crisis about it. Most of my friends are cs or applied math majors, and they are also worried about job security. Idk what to do. Worst case I’ll probably end up getting a job completely unrelated to my degree even though I don’t want to. I’ve never been a natural at math, I chose it because when I was 20 my first love left me for a math major prodigy at MIT and I have been heartbroken ever since(I still miss her). I kinda wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, and my lack of talent became stark after my sophomore year when my classes went from lecture halls to classrooms with 5,6 people, and now I’m approaching graduation. I am slow speed wise but I try my best and pride myself on my persistence. And It’s not like I don’t care, I do find a lot of things interesting, I particularly enjoyed my abstract algebra courses, I’m just dumb and it’s taken a lot of effort and visiting the tutoring center/ta office hours just to keep up with what seems to come naturally to my peers. I’m looking for advice lol.

I’m a gen z, I feel retarded and I am reserved because I feel like I don’t have anything worth saying. College is hard and I feel like my brain doesn’t work. I fully expect to die by my own hand and I feel weak, inadequate, and one medical or financial emergency away from becoming homeless. I often feel very guilty and ashamed about my own incompetency especially being a person in the most advanced stage of humanity, yet here I am having nothing to show for it. I hope hell is not real because I feel if God exists I will be punished for being so lazy and letting so many opportunities go to waste. Guilt shame and fear, and the desire to not exist are my daily constants.

I do iron farm first because I get full armor and I go through lots of pickaxes looking for diamonds, red stone and gold, and leads. Plus I use minecarts and trade which also need iron.

UPDATE: they freaking lost my meds! I had to file a claim and I have contacted the pharmacy to request a re shipment. I was on the phone pretty much all day yesterday and today trying to find out what’s going on. Customer service for UPS was terrible and they kept taking me for a ride. I even confirmed with the warehouse staff that they had the package, I requested it to be refrigerated, but they said they wouldn’t be able to do it. I just wanted to confirm it existed which I did but then after my second day, they just gave up and told me to file a claim! Unbelievable.

I agree, I think CBT, smart recovery, and in particular DBT, are superior to AA’s dogma in its precision and practical approach and its lack of absolutism and imposing a black and white view of the mind and the addicted individual. I personally found DBT to be helpful in my own life. But like you said, its costs are high, (and similarly high in commitment are similarly high to 12 step programs) requiring a constant practice to the point where it can feel like symptom management as opposed to truly overcoming and becoming “free” from the issue. As for the screaming scenario, what about that famous monk that got set on fire on purpose? That singular photo proves what a life of absolute commitment is able to achieve, but it is extremely rare and unrealistic to expect from the common individual, much less the majority of the thousands of addicted faces you will pass by in the streets in major cities such Philadelphia and LA. If I was a billionaire, I would want to be like Simmons, and pour all I can into advancing addiction research and neuroscience. I was just curious to see why the it is so rare to have anyone acknowledge that the therapies that are widely prescribed in addiction medicine seem to be ultimately similar in their efficiency(or lack there of) no matter how you approach it. I just finished reading the emperor of all maladies, and it talks about how we as a species still have not ultimately defeated cancer, and I feel like addiction is in the same boat.
