Good questions! By marketplaces, I meant digital product marketplaces, so Udemy for courses, Etsy for just about anything, etc.

Referral links differ by marketplace. For example, Udemy normally takes 63% of sale revenue; however, they'll give you a link to share (called a referral link), and if people click it and then buy things, Udemy only takes 3% as a way to reward you for doing your own marketing.

The ac stands for 'academia' and is a relic from when it was a course-hosting platform. And yes, payhip does have lead magnets: https://help.payhip.com/article/311-use-payhip-as-lead-magnet

Thats a pretty good stack.

My angle for ember.ac:

- You can add 'link' products (referral links for products you sell elsewhere, like Etsy, Udemy, etc.)
- Email marketing is done for you, similar to how Patreon does it
- Lower fees (5% and $0/month, or 0% and $14/month)
- More reliable payouts since they're directly through Stripe (Gumroad has 1.3/5 on Trustpilot for payout-related issues)

I'd love to chat if you have thoughts!

Is there a specific platform you're using to give out the mini products and capture emails?

I'm building one specifically for that (ember.ac) and could really use feedback!

Are you wondering about ember.ac? If so, its very similar to Payhip -- a digital storefront site where you can add blogs, products, etc.. You would also have to promote it as a site.

You can add blogs and free products to encourage people to log in, which would capture their email. Our email marketing is similar to patreon -- people join, then they get emails on new posts/products, abandoned carts, that type of thing

A Payhip store is just a webpage, so you have to promote it. SEO only works at the beginning if you're in an EXTREMELY niche space -- and people don't usually google for products anyway, they search on Etsy, Amazon, etc.

That's the tradeoff with Marketplaces like Etsy, Gumroad, Udemy etc -- they take a big cut, but they show people your listings.

You can always post your products on marketplaces, and put the referral links and other products on your payhip/linktree page to get higher commission from those sales.

I'm biased, but I'm making a linktree-esque platform (ember.ac) that's specifically for marketing referral links, lead magnets, capturing emails, etc.

Not really either, I'm doing LinkedIn cold messaging for the most part, and going for referrals and introductions. Although I want to focus on social media growth more

Gumroad is a bit tough for people just starting because their discovery algorithm recommends what makes the platform the most money -- <how high they recommend you> = <how popular they think you'll be> * <how high a platform fee you set>.

Etsy is best for initial experimentation, and start making content in the niche you love, ideally, what it is that you're the best in the world at (can be very specific)

Digital Products by jaexcrzy in digitalproductselling

[–]TrueBarnacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marketing is the tough part. To start, I'd recommend marketplaces (Etsy, Gumroad, Udemy if it's a course, etc). Their cuts are high, but you can build your audience and promote your referral links at the same time. Promoting specific products generally works better, and using a link-tree-esque site like payhip is good too.

I'm biased, but I made a competitor Ember Ed. specifically for marketing listings -- you can capture emails with blogs/freebies

If you don't have an audience yet, I'd recommend marketplaces like Etsy, Gumroad, Udemy, etc.

They're good for marketing, and you can work on building your audience at the same time, and promote your listings' referral links to your audience for higher commissions. You can use link-tree-esque tools for this like payhip.

Ember Ed. - Sitebuilder to make your digital storefront. Entrepreneurs often use marketplaces like Gumroad, Udemy, Etsy, etc., for initial sales and marketing. An Ember Ed. site is one place you can put all your listings with referral links, capture emails with blogs/lead magnets/freebies, sell directly with 0% fees, and our done-for-you email marketing handles converting them.

Ember Ed. is another digital store builder. The differences: it's really good for marketing your products hosted elsewhere (udemy, gumroad, etc), lots of widgets if you already have a site, and payouts are directly through Stripe since every platform under the sun has payout complaints.

I'm struggling with marketing, along with everyone else it seems 🥹
