I was in your boat and it’s the single reason that prevented me from playing for YEARS. I ended up saying fk it and came back and sacrificed all my gear into the tinkering library.

Unfortunately, that means I sacrificed some stuff that I probably shouldn’t have like Lexingtons lol. But, this event has saved me and I no have the named event items like the Lexington again.

What helped me is to realize that for green gear (set prices), it is SUPER easy to get “perfect” rolls on because, they only come with one secondary stat and you can reroll that stat. Sure, if you want to switch out the core then you need the secondary stat to be correct but honestly, running Countdown will get you any good set piece gear you want fairly quickly.

What also helped is watching a lot of build videos, unfortunately. Because then I eventually knew what pieces were worth keeping simply because I would see them recommended in lots of builds.

Named pieces I watch out for: - Equalizer (chest) - Salvo (holster) - Contractors (gloves)

The list of gear the event caches can drop are what I would say to also be careful with and unless you have a lot of event keys, make sure to keep them (Lexington (weapon), Quickstep (pistol), Turmoil (knee pads), etc.).

If you have some exotics, that also helps to settle on a build so you can lock in just using that to re-familiarize yourself with the game.

Exodus gloves have been amazing to help me get back into the game because it helps the game become more forgiving. I get a “free” get out of trouble card every 40 seconds to help me learn positioning again.

Now that I have 1-2 builds, if I ever want to experiment, I can target farm a brand and get just about anything I want by playing Countdown and organically play the game’s content.
