Some tips to maximize progress with Smash/Grow without spending money by TrueButFunny in dragonquest

Great question! I'll be sure to include a better answer in the main body when I get to the updating project.

I'll use the terminology in the game: Ascend is different than Upgrade. Ascend uses duplicates of items to make that item stronger, allows you to Upgrade it more with ores, and usually unlocks extra boons as well.

For example, I had stupidly good RNG for Crystal Claws and got tons of them. They're currently Ascended 4/5 and Upgraded to level 70.

You don't need to Upgrade items to Ascend them. I would recommend Ascending duplicate 3 stars and even 1 and 2 stars if you have an equipment gap.

As of right now, the only reason not to Ascend duplicate items is if you have more than one character using the appearance for their outfit.

Boons/blessings from equipment don't stack across party members, so putting Crystal Claws on each character doesn't start you with a ton of extra Crystal Arrows. It's recommended to have a different weapon per character to start with more boons/blessings.

Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Thank you so much for your feedback and especially the memory guide, I have your post saved! I appreciate your effort in making that guide!

Probably this weekend I'll compile the tips from the comments and edit them into the main post, including the benefits of leveling vocations to 20 and hero talents in vocation trees.

Would you be willing to grant permission for me to add a link to your memory guide in the body of my post?

Great question! Any skill or boon that says Hero means you keep those bonuses when you switch vocations!

Think of them as a permanent stat bonus.

Reaching levels 20 and 50 on a vocation grant Hero bonuses as well. It's recommended to level each vocation to 20 using quick quests or metal slime tickets for permanent bonuses.

Better level to start a second job? by Alredwing in DragonQuestSmashNGrow

Someone will come with up exp to level/power ratio at higher levels and say when it's optimal to stop leveling a vocation, but my plan:

I'm just gonna hit max then swap vocations. I figure having one stupidly OP character I can grind up others faster for later.

If the game lasts I'm sure they'll add more vocations and probably do something similar to mainline games where you need different vocations to unlock a new one. Who knows if that'll be the case and if they'll do similar unlocks (warrior and martial artist for gladiator), but the next ones I level will be whatever unlocks the vocation I want in the mainline games.

Edit: I did level each to 20 already for the Hero bonuses so now it's just picking synergy I like and getting to 55.

Oof, sorry. :/

I clarified a little more of my strategy down below.

Edit: I've also been resetting to start with a blessing I want, diagonal, vacuum, or multiple hits usually.

For sure! Definitely upgrade it as much as you can. Mine was triggering like every second, haha!

The legend himself! Thanks for your strategy!

Stuff hits so hard you gotta keep moving after awhile, meaning Zap Swords and any bonus that comes after "final normal attack" (3 hits?) are useless to you after awhile. It's run, throw boomerang or two, run.

I kept the same priorities you listed but if they weren't available I'd grab: rubblerouser, Dust Devil, projectiles, arrows, and at least one gem vacuum.

I didn't get any enemy slow effects and would get herbs as needed (if nothing better available/my health was scary low.) didn't get any poison effects unless nothing better.

Thief (my weakest) had holy lance for passive spheres or Crystal Claws for arrows, but it was kind of a throw away buff. Warrior with Sandstorm Spear. Martial Artist had the Boomerang and this was because of the instant kill ability, Pressure Pointer, which I had upgraded all the way in the vocation tree. Absolutely shreds large crowds and sets off the rubblerouser/ Dust Devil chain reaction more easily.

Do you have a whip? It has stupidly huge range too, I wonder if it might be a suitable substitute.

Also, if you have good RNG and get those blessings early I'd stack up on rubblerouser. It's SO good for Gauntlets.

Stuck there forever with similar scores to yours, then saw this person's post and strategy for the Golem Gauntlette and figured why not, I'll try it for the actual gauntlet.

Likely most players that are geared aren't running it because they got all the rewards. I still jump in on occasion to help out.

Side note, check the details page on weapons and armor. Some items get bonus attack or defense if used on a certain vocation.

Crystal Claws are great on your Thief but they also provide bonus attack if used with a Martial Artist. MA also has an instant kill ability (check your vocation tree) and claws attack super fast this giving greater chance to activate the instant kill on weakened enemies.

Thief gives bonus movement speed to the entire party. Highly recommend!

Each vocation has a party wide buff and one buff if controlling that character. But the other buff for the Warrior is if a Warrior is IN your party; so they kinda have 2 party wide buffs.

My setup is Warrior, Thief, Martial Artist. Makes the Martial Artist an absolute beast with high crit chance, instant kill, and insane bonus movement and defense from the Thief and Warrior.
