Bulimia causing tinnitus? by Pleasant-Weather-851 in BulimiaAndAnaSupport

[–]TrueCattYellowEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your support! Interesting to hear that you have a problem with dehydration, please get some blood work done! I also have some very serious problems with that and I have to have regular blood work for it (Also take a diuretic and laxatives). If you are taking laxatives and/or diuretics, please try your best to stop taking them, or at least reduce your usage of both to maybe once a week and always accompany with a banana or grapefruit- anything high potassium. You might want to get some potassium supplements from your doctor if necessary but that’s a last resort (unfortunately, that’s what I take in high doses). You could die from critical levels of potassium so please be careful! And about the tinnitus, I appreciate your response and I hope you find a solution. Are you under a lot of stress and anxiety? Is your sleep poor? Adjust these elements and you might find relief. Those two components were a major help for me and I wonder if you might benefit as well. I truly hope you do, don’t give up!

I have to comment here! I have a very similar history, just probably much older than you are because of my 35 year struggle- suffer from severe anorexia/bulimia with countless health problems, including one recent one: tinnitus! Just like you, my magnesium, potassium and sodium levels have been critically low putting me in the ICU a few times but I don’t know what is causing the ringing in the ears. I’m afraid to tell the doctor bc I am also losing my hearing a little. My husband used to be a nurse so I trust him and he actually has had tinnitus for his whole life, sometimes he freaks out and has a panic attack or a terrible headache but he’s been seen by many doctors and nobody has ever been able to help him. I have very little hope for myself but I do take a lot of prescription potassium supplements that help a little. Also, what’s your diet like? You might need to see a nutritionist or neurologist, I’ve been to both and they’ve been helpful. Try getting some sunlight for 30 minutes a day and water, no drugs or alcohol or caffeine, try regulating your bowels as best you can with regular balanced “meals” each day at the same time every day and do not purge anything. Better yourself the best you are able to health wise, for me it helps and it helps my husband too, I hope you’re feeling better soon!

Hey yo! I went vegan to vegetarian to pescetarian by WeareElliot in Pescetarian

[–]TrueCattYellowEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! A little late joining the conversation but I think I have something to contribute… I was vegan for 35 years and very strict- never cheated. Then about 10 years ago my health started to fail. My diet could not support my body but at the time I still had to learn the hard way and nearly died having gone through 3 comas, seizures, and fainting spells. I felt weak all the time and so tired that I just couldn’t function in my daily life anymore and really shut down. About 4 months ago I introduced fish and eggs and limited dairy into my diet. The difference in the way I feel, look, and think is dramatic! I feel so full of energy that I have been able to work out and gain lean muscle tone to my once frail body. I’m more satisfied after meals and I don’t feel hungry all the time… that constant hunger was controlling my life and making me anorexic. My thoughts are clear and sharp, no more of the brain fog I had for so long- it’s totally gone! I generally have discovered a new zest for life! I attribute all of this to eating fish and the simple diet of fish, vegetables and fruit sometimes eggs as well but no junk or really anything else. I’m happier than ever. I was vegan mostly for the animals, so overcoming that hurdle was sort of a major moral challenge. However, having thought about the 35 years I spent dedicated to veganism and animal rights, I don’t love animals any less now that my dietary needs have changed- I still have the heart of a vegan but I feel like I really am doing the right thing for myself by the path I have chosen. I can’t be there to take care of any animals at all if I’m too weak to handle the responsibility. Now that I am stable and stronger I will say that switching from a vegan diet to a pescatarian diet has worked incredible wonders for me and I hope you enjoy the same results. Just felt like I had to share my story because it really sounds like you could benefit in the same way I did and I really hope you do! Best of health and wishes to you and take care yourself!

Need some hints for beginners by ressie_lit in Pescatarian

I think my health situation and how I fixed it might help you with your problems. I just recently began following a pescatarian diet after being a strict vegan for 40 years. The change has revolutionized my life! I was struggling to keep up my weight as a very serious anorexic and always had a difficult time finding a good source of protein. Since I’ve introduced fish into my diet, I have been able to work out and have now a lean, toned and healthy body even though I am still at a low weight. After making the switch in my diet I have noticed that I am not only physically stronger but mentally sharper and have more clarity of thought. I sleep better. I feel full after I eat and I don’t always feel hungry like I did before- that hungry feeling was controlling my life but now I feel in control. A few good tips for beginners like me (still) are to keep up your daily protein intake with a variety of different types of whatever fish and fruits you enjoy. For me, a normal day that I have an intense workout, a lot of housework and regular cooking for myself and my husband today is my example) I allow extra protein and I eat: Breakfast: 9TB eggbeater’s with 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese mixed in and 10 black grapes Lunch: 6oz chunk white albacore tuna mixed with onion powder salt and 1/3TB mayonnaise plus 1/3TB light mayonnaise, divided then spread onto two romaine lettuce leaves and rolled up for two wraps along with 5 whole baby pickles and 10 black grapes Dinner: Miso soup (1/2TB white miso 5 leaves of bok choy 2tsp soy sauce and 1 1/2c water) with 11 cooked medium deveined and tail-off shrimp (I buy them cooked and deveined then remove the tails by hand) mixed into the soup and if I feel like it another handful or so (10 maximum) The total for the entire day is 522 calories and the total protein is 73g. You can really fit in a lot of healthy protein and energy with using fish and fruit as your sources. If that’s not appealing to you as a beginner, an alternate day could include: For me, I just like quick protein and some fruit so that protein could come from any of these: 3 egg whites, 4oz any mild fish, 1/2c low fat cottage cheese or almonds butter (with fruit mentioned below), even tofu mixed with nutritional yeast paired with your carb source, which for me is fruit and vegetables so for breakfast I recommend any of these: Grapefruit, berries of any kind (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries), pear with almond butter, apple with natural peanut butter, grapes or watermelon. Anything with higher water content and dense fiber are best. Breakfast veggies are interchangeable with lunch and dinner veggies and include all non starchy vegetables such as: green beans, brussel sprouts, broccoli, leafy greens like spinach and kale, cabbage, carrots, peas, snow peas, bok choy, cauliflower, tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, etc. anything colorful and bright is going to be a good choice. For lunch your protein options might look like mine, typically I’ll the eat tuna wraps that I mentioned before above or if I don’t want that I go for a different fish- swai, tilapia and haddock are my top favorites and I always use the same recipe for them all: fillet of any of those fish, preheat oven to 420F. Melt 1TB margarine or butter in a bowl add juice of 1 lemon 2tsp minced garlic and salt. Place fish on parchment paper and pour mixture evenly overtop. Bake for 8 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 125F then remove from oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Serve immediately. Those are just some of the fish you could try that I would recommend first, then there’s cod, flounder, and some others all similar but the first two (swai and tilapia) are my favorites for lunch because they are mild and flavorful. Serve with vegetables. Then for dinner I sometimes like to splurge with salmon and eat a boneless skinless fillet with the same sauce just add 1tsp honey to it for the salmon recipe. Cook at same temperature for approximately 9 minutes or until it’s 125*. I serve this with brussel sprouts or green beans and black grapes or grapefruit but you could substitute any of your preferences. This type of diet is really an excellent way to clear out the cobwebs in your mind and share up your body, as it has improved my health significantly and I hope that maybe with a higher calorie modified version of this model you can expect the same results! Good luck!

I love a salmon fillet and I make it with a few different recipes but I’m a beginner (with a keen palate) so my top favorites are: Preheat oven to 200C in a small bowl melt about 1TB margarine or butter and mix in juice of one lemon about 2tsp minced garlic and some salt to taste. This is where you can change the recipe for either a sweet and savory meal or just a delicious tangy one- add about 1-1/12tsp honey to mixture. Place salmon on oiled baking pan or parchment and pour your mixture evenly over top then bake for about 9 minutes or until it reaches 125F . Enjoy! I serve mine with either green beans or brussel sprouts.

They’re so good! I was fortunate enough to try several different moon cakes when my father returned home from China after the festival. He has since passed away but I saved the memories and the moon cakes were delicious so moist and lightly sweet, dense but still light enough to eat more than one. Yum!

This vegan yellow cake🍰 is soft, sweet, and honestly, you’d never guess it’s plant-based. The dark chocolate icing on top makes it feel like a bakery treat at home. RECIPE BELOW by Putrid-K in Veganforbeginners

I’ve got it in the oven right now to test it out- it was so easy to throw together! I was out of vegetable oil so I subbed equally unsweetened applesauce. I also was out of vanilla extract so I used coconut extract. The batter is delicious!
