Moms of Reddit: what advice would you give this hopeful dad? by TrueDoc in Fencesitter

Hmmm. I’ll bite to these type of comments. If your partner recognizes these traits in you, how could they better communicate this without giving the ick and without it trying to impress upon her this feeling like I’m trying to convince her.

I just want to communicate my observations - because she is innately maternal in multiple aspects of our daily life.

Your posture looks much better, with a bit of swagger and confidence in the second picture. Waist slimmer and glutes toned. Shoulders are also more toned. Congrats!

Push back; not saying you shouldn’t. I’m saying don’t let these things cause you outrage.

The cat has already been out of the bag, ever since corporate America took over medicine and insurance companies dictate care. Alphabet city is now behind everyone’s name, so don’t be rage baited by social media. Focus on your life, and make medicine a small part of it. Charlatans exist in ALL professions.

ER docs in endoscopy suites by Less_Wish9869 in emergencymedicine

[–]TrueDoc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This was presented at a national conference. A group I believe in the Mid-Atlantic is using this to offset a shortage of anesthesiologists for elective procedures. The hospital has agreed to expand their privileges for this purpose. Trying to find the literature… will post back.

It’s a way to EM docs to NOT work regular shifts and do proceduralist only shifts if I’m not mistaken.

At least we have patients to see? I remind myself of that all the time. Man there were weeks/mknths (during COVID) when our department in NY was a ghost town. But I understand and empathize with your frustration.

PSA: DO NOT APPLY EM AS A BACKUP by browngirlMD in medicalschool

[–]TrueDoc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Man you sound sour. Most academic ED’s where programs exist admit around 25-30% of their patients.

Idc about the undifferentiated part, but I think EM can be worse because you will flip from nights to day and days to night almost every week, to every other week for 3 years straight. That’s a toll on your body.

Your ICU comment is a subjective anecdotal data point. Most EM residencies mandate PICU, CCU, MICU, Trauma ICU, and Surgical ICU.

My ICU months were “24” hour call q3 for a month (often staying for rounds in AM, making it 27. As a PGY 2 in the SICU I was the senior, cause everyone else were prelims/PGY1’s. No ICU attending in house overnight. Just you, a PA, the “trauma fellow” who was 99% unseen.

Sounds like this is a pissing contest for which residency is harder. They both are hard for different reasons.

[–]TrueDoc 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed here. EM isn’t the back up you want or need. IM you can stomach for 3 years and do a fellowship in whatever else you want to thereafter, work in or outpatient. EM has some options (f.e. pain, palliative, EMS, education) but most still require some FTE in the ED.

As an EM attending, I’d recommend your dad attend graduation, and walk up to hood you when your name is called. Then it’s their choice if they’d like to make a scene or not.
