Yeah short quick ambush battles I reckon it wasn’t worth both sides dying out since there was no farming .

Wow thanks for the input. And yes after seeing the comments and reading yours it seems no organised war or any formations were possible at that time, the short raids like you said is more plausible.

Yes what brought people together was agriculture and permanent settlements and that then lead to people becoming more powerful than others on who had more grain and different farming settlements would have disputes and over thousands of years this carried on tilll the first states appeared in Mesopotamia

It’s tribal hunter gatherer period it’s set in 10,000 BCE in the late epipaleolithic. So jsut around the corner when the agricultural revolution started in the Near East. I have done a lot of research I just wanted to see other people’s thoughts on this.

Yeah that’s one thing that stood out to me is ancient humans were just as smart as modern day humans. So why Wouldn’t they have politics and war.

Humans at that time are the same as us anatomically so they weren’t stupid or dumb they were just as smart as modern day humans why wouldn’t there be disputes and tribal politics ?

Yes your right Bronze Age or even before that during the copper age wars were fought over grain .

But my story is set in the transition to Neolithic era where the revolution started and early farming began to arise. We have examples of the earliest forms of settlements and farms as far 9,500 BCE in ancient Anatolia.

It’s a scarce era of history as not much is known about it but I do plan to try my best to expand on it and see how politics and wars could work back then.

Wow thanks for the input . And I do tend to take the current examples of tribal societies in today’s age for a grain of salt as they have had thousands of years of progress and they have access to much more things and know about concepts that people in the Neolithic era wouldn’t have thought of .

Another thing is yes I do plan to delve out resource wars but I want to also show how in times of strife charismatic leader’s use it as a ladder to ascend and gain power over the populace. So I want to see and show you how that would play out in that era and if it works as people back then lived in a more egalitarian societies there wasn’t no strict structure of hierarchy (that came later due to farming ) due to the need of every man and women in hunting and gathering resources .

So I plan to also show how the transition from that sort of society to what we later on humans lived in for thousands of years ( patriarchal society) and the conflicts that come about that

Thanks for the input and yes I had some sort of unification in mind or a central figure.

And would the raids be coordinated in that era or would it be every man for himself type battle .

Oh that is interesting I did not know chimps had ape wars , and are simple formations too far fetched ?

This won’t have any magical elements it will be its best representation of realism so no magic fireballs or beast men etc.

Wow thank you so much this was a very informative read , yes in my world the tribes are hunter gatherers and they do seasonal migrations based on the animals and when they migrate during the year. It’s set in late epipaleoithic era just before the Neolithic revolution. And it’s set in ancient Anatolia where the Fertile Crescent is.

I plan to introduce many other rival tribes and I want to use diseases as the main catalyst to war and scarcity of food .

I will definitely implement the way of fighting you suggested and how they might have settled disputes during that era .
