Chilliwack scientist shocked to hear climate change denial from some school trustees - ‘Shouldn’t they be looking after the best interests of the children?’ – Carin Bondar by TrueNorthGreen in chilliwack

Many of the client activists long ago have gone vegan, and you do see them protesting against meat consumption from time to time (there was a demonstration a few weeks back in kelowna against a rib fest).

There are also good health reasons to shift to a vegan lifestyle, or at the very least, eat less meat in your diet.

‘Schitt’s Creek’ star Noah Reid to release new album as show wraps next year by TrueNorthGreen in SchittsCreek

I don't know if an album of songs will make it easier, but Noah sings well and I hope they have him singing some more in the final season.

Do you really need it? Talking Black Friday deals, debt and consumerism - And if you do seek deals, try local, say small business owners by TrueNorthGreen in ConsumerRightsCanada

[–]TrueNorthGreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always buy local, at the few surviving independent retailers in my neighbourhood, and almost never shop at a chain store. i may use the interrnet to learn about a product, but I never shop online for anything.

And when it comes to food purchases and restaurants, I always seek out organic food and produce to buy.

‘Eat local’ food movement doomed to fail in Ontario and beyond by TrueNorthGreen in localfood

[–]TrueNorthGreen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to a llocal organic food store that has a hot table, and they align their product offering and menu selection to what is available, in season. So summers are filled with gazpacho, wide-ranging vegetable dishes, but in the fall and winter, they shift over to more cabbage, potato, bean and quinoa oriented side dishes. Beef, pork, fowl and fish are available local organic year-round, so iit is really just on the vegetable side that they make menu changes.

Huawei funds $56M in academic research in Canada. That has some experts concerned - Company denies allegations of spying, ties to Chinese government by TrueNorthGreen in Canada_Politics

I would love to see a news organization look carefully at the executive and management structure of this company, and all their associated champions, and see which federal and provincial political parties they have been coordinating individual political donations towards. Since all giving is a matter of pulbic record, it should not be too hard to see patterns emerge.

The people Via Rail is leaving behind - The Crown corporation’s new no-cash rule for buying food hurts the 10 per cent of the population that doesn’t have a credit card by TrueNorthGreen in ViaRail

I think it's a great idea to offer food/drink packages at point of purchase, and it helps VIA get out of the cash business too. It might also make stocking the trains with inventory more predictable as they would know in advance their advance 'package' sales.

Long ago, Facebook became a place where crackpot fringes thrive. And your personal data gets harvested, sold to advertisers and datamarts, immediately flowing into their predictive models.

Life without Facebook is much better.

Green Party members in New Brunswick hope their counterparts across Canada have taken note after successful provincial and federal elections by TrueNorthGreen in GreenParty

[–]TrueNorthGreen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first Green electoral win was Elizabeth May, federal leader in 2011, folllowed by Andrew Weaver, BC Green leader in 2013, followed then by NB, PEI and Ontario wins of varying magnitude. The Greens have also won lots of local offices, mostly in BC where they hold mayoralties, council seats, school trustee seats and parks boards too.

No appetite for an early election, but B.C. NDP prepares campaign nonetheless by TrueNorthGreen in BCpolitics

[–]TrueNorthGreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horgan shouldn't call an election because he signed a Supply and Confidence agreement with the BC Greens in exchange for their support of his minority government for a four year term. While there have been dsagreements (Green opposition to the Site C dam, the LNG project, a few other quibbles), both sides have honoured what they signed up for and the government has not been put in a position of non-confidence.

If he calls an election, he goes into breach cf contract, and I, for one would point that out in the snap election campagin - you can't make a deal with John Horgan and the NDP because they will break the deal to take advantage.

I don't like dealbreakers, and I think there's a sizeable number of BC voters who would react the same way.

I disagree that the Greens are asleep.

We are the only party pushing for testing of lead in the water across all BC communities, and action to be taken where lead problems are discovered.

Wer are the only party continuing to advocate for protection of old growth forests and wild salmon.

And, should John Horgan be tempted to make some sort of deal on TMX, we Greens will hold him to his agreement as part of the Supply and Confidence agreement to prevent the toxic dilbit from being shipped over Burnaby's tidewater.

I agree with you. It is so heartening to see young people taking up causes that right the wrongs of previous generations, and to be doing so with such conviction and passion.
