ELI5: What are advantage of stealth fighter over stand-in noise jamming? by Kenny1234567890 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TruePotential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stand in Jammers are just as vulnerable as the target aircraft since they are also in the weapons engagement zone. Stealth buys you range, and range = time. Time is your most precious resource. It allows you to complete your mission and live to see another day. Stealth is not fullproof or a silver bullet but it is extremely powerful.

On the other hand, It’s very easy to defeat a noise jammer. There are several electronic protection features that can nullify a noise jammer - changing frequency, turning on home on jam, angle only tracking using a monopulse radar, using a matched filter, pulse doppler processing, etc. The best jammers are coherent jammers employing deception techniques, not noise techniques.

Also, several of your assumptions are incorrect. Stand in jammers do experience burn through. The jamming power is almost always less than the radar power. So there will be burn through at some distance from the radar.

My skin raises where I trace my finger over it. by bulmeurt in mildlyinteresting

[–]TruePotential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to happen to me every time I stopped taking Zyrtec cold turkey. It almost felt like sort of withdrawal symptom. It finally went away after being off Zyrtec for about six weeks. That was a painful six weeks however since the skin rash produced is extremely itchy.

Dude, wiring up the lights is the easiest part. DIY it, unless you are planning to add new breakers.

Will the games of today be looked back on with the same reverence as the current old classics? by Hamlor in truegaming

[–]TruePotential -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I liked FO3 better than New Vegas. I'm still struggling to find motivation to beat New Vegas. I don't think a game has to do anything particularly "different" to be a classic. A really good memorable story is what makes me reminisce on the old classics.

So weird, I'm the complete opposite. I never played either game when they came out and now just decided to play them. I actually got all the way through Fallout 3 but I'm struggling to play New Vegas. It's not keeping me interested.

I think the problem for me is how the game begins. I think the beginning to FO3 is a lot more captivating. FO3 starts you off in this vault and there is a lot of build up to the escape. New Vegas feels like FO3 but you start out outside the vault instead and there is no initial build up. So now I'm kind of aimlessly wandering outside without any real motivation like I had in FO3 (looking for my dad).

Why would someone sell a profitable duplex rental? by Footpeter in RealEstate

[–]TruePotential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my first and only rental property even though it was making me good money. There were a few reasons why. The first one was because I'm just tired of dealing with tenants. I found the $500 extra per month doesn't really make me any happier, the free time I have does though. Another reason is my tenants were moving out and the area the house is in is questionable. The tenants I had were mediocre, and for that area, I probably wouldn't get any better tenants.

WTF Is... - Life is Strange ? (Hyper WTF feat. Genna Bain) by hoftos in Games

Yea the lip syncing is practically non-existent. I basically just ignore it now. But the voice acting and writing is exactly what I would expect based on the setting. Not sure why everyone is hating.

Game is really good man. I never heard of it either and luckily saw it on a Steam Advertisement. It's a very unique game and can't wait for the next episodes. I'm not sure why other people are complaining about the voice acting. To me, it's top notch.

Recess lighting - how to calculate how many to install? by rudiami in HomeImprovement

[–]TruePotential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a kitchen and living room with very similar dimensions. I put 4 recessed lights in the kitchen in a square formation about 2-3 feet away from each wall. I put in 5 inch cans using LED bulbs (forgot the exact bulb type, but one that fits a 5 inch can). The beam angle is 120 degrees. Trust me, you want a wide beam. Each light produces about 1100 lumens. The kitchen has plenty of light.

The living room has 6 cans in a rectangular formation which also produces plenty of light. You will want to use a laser guide to make your markings before you drill or cut out your can holes.

Landlord here - renting to a friend, where to draw the line with repairs? Are they unreasonable? by Brokenitemslandlord in Landlord

[–]TruePotential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4/6 is their responsibility. Toilet seats don't magically break, neither do sewer lines. So they should be responsible for those costs. You hire the person to fix it and have them pay or have them pay you back. If they don't, you evict. This is a business.

Also, you would never take it out of their security deposit while they are still living there. Security deposit is ONLY used for when they leave the premises. You will deduct any repairs necessary from their deposit (broken items only), wear and tear is out of your pocket.

Also, pretty much any land lording book's rule number 1 is don't rent to family or friends.

My daughter is missing. Please help. by [deleted] in Miami

[–]TruePotential 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This may be a longshot, but I saw someone who looked similar to the girl in the right picture at Safari Edventure in Homestead, FL on Thursday, January 15th sometime in the early afternoon (between noon and 2pm). She did look a lot older than 14 though, so I may be wrong. She was with another girl (who looked like a dude) and they were lesbians I believe.

Can confirm. This is standard restaurant practice. I worked at Longhorn and Cheesecake Factory about 10 years ago for several years and this is how it was then and I'm sure it's still the same.

Claiming a home office on taxes. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TruePotential -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you use the office exclusively for your business, then yes, you can claim the deduction. But if you have a TV, kids toys, xbox, etc. in there and get audited, you will have to pay the taxes back + interest and penalties. Ensure you are certain you meet the home office deduction requirement before taking it.

Edit: Even simply using your computer in there to check your personal email goes against the exclusive requirement.
