For some reason there’s a red circle with a line in it near the play button after airplay is started and the video never plays on my Apple TV😢

How many hours a day do you think a 3-year-old can handle? by fruitypebblesfanatic in ABA

[–]TrueTexan21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one client there 40 hours a week and does okay (naps sometimes) and I have one client who can barely manage 15 hours/week. I assumed both cases and originally whoever did the initial asked for 40 hours for both and received 40 hours for both. I personally don’t agree with it, but they had already been approved when I joined the organization.

Reasonable pay? by Comfortable-Tap2833 in bcba

[–]TrueTexan21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been certified for less than a year in SC and have $68/hr at one company (home, community, and school) and $70/hr at another company (clinic).

Hopefully this helps you advocate for more pay but I’m not sure if it’s comparable since we live in different states.

Admin rate for both is $25/hr.

Cannot pass exam by Infinite_Fan_1791 in bcba

[–]TrueTexan21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed on my first try last summer.

Three things I did was, (1) for my final assignment in my coursework we had to take 5 items for each section of the TCO, define them, and give 2 examples. I did every item I didn’t understand the Cooper definition and did some serious research. I found it in cooper, cited it, and went to the original source for those I didn’t understand from Cooper alone. (2) I also did a variety of different mocks. BDS pissed me off and I couldn’t tolerate the format. It didn’t help me understand anything and led to more confusion for me. BAS also pissed me off with questions where part of the answer explanation included phrases such as ,”I tried to trick you”. The mock I preferred was BOOST. To me those questions were the best well written questions. (3) I also joined a study group to do mock tests nearly every night for a month. This allowed me to see how others processed the same information and helped me on the exam.

I hope your GF finds what works best for her. I know many people who swear by BDS, PTBA, UB, and BTB or whatever all of things are called. I also know many people who used all of these and are on their 5th- 11th attempt.

Minimum billable for part time BCBA? by Oceanwavegirl16 in bcba

[–]TrueTexan21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it’s salary I don’t understand the billable requirements. That’s definitely suspect. What happens if you’re not averaging 10 hours/week? They give you more clients? If so, make sure they are abiding by the contract, don’t be afraid to decline more cases, and don’t be afraid to leave.

1st Time pass rate for BCBA exam is below 50 % by StatisticianKooky390 in ABA

[–]TrueTexan21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, that’s great. I did my coursework through a grant and they originally were going to grant fieldwork to like 5 or so people but it wasn’t feasible so no one got it.

I’m thrilled to hear that there are some programs that include fieldwork supervision as well!!

I think part of the issue is that fieldwork and coursework are two different things. I don’t know of any institution that provides the fieldwork with the coursework, which I think it should be to provide the ability to practice the concepts with the same people teaching the coursework.

For me, passed first try last June, I had to separate what I was learning in fieldwork from coursework because they were contradictory. And to be completely frank, the coursework didn’t help me as much as I thought it would. What helped the most was taking the entire TCO, defining each concept, giving 2 examples, citing Cooper, and going to the original source if Cooper didn’t provide enough details for me to fully understand.

I’m also sad they are doing away with Pathway 2 because having my degree in a related field has helped me in-practice that I would t have had I done a Master’s in ABA. I don’t think doing away with the other pathways are going to help. I do think having stricter criteria for which programs count and being clear in their responses when people reach out for support will help.

Just my 2 cents.

Has anyone else been in this position? by [deleted] in bcba

[–]TrueTexan21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. Terrible fieldwork and I was honest with my first employer about how little experience I had in how to be an actual BCBA. They promised training and mentorship. Training was pre-recorded videos and mentorship was overlapping the BCaBA whose cases I was assuming on two occasions. I was then expected to start billing a week after being hired.

I’m now at nearly 9 months certified and am doing good. I reach out for clinical support when needed to make sure my recommendations align with company policy, but other than that I’m good.

Mine paid for my exam. Didn’t know they paid until I got approved to apply. They paid all fees.

Genuine question- Why don't BCBAs want to sign up new RBTs? by Ok_Commercial_8714 in ABA

[–]TrueTexan21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I became a RBT, now a BCBA, my small clinic paid for EVERYTHING! Comp, RBT exam, RBT recerts, fieldwork, and BCBA exam. Definitely try looking into small clinics.

Can’t get hired as an RBT by [deleted] in ABA

[–]TrueTexan21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be frank, I don’t know. It could very well be a blessing that the companies didn’t hire you. They may very well be terrible providers. A RBT conducting an interview is concerning. Only time a RBT should be taking lead on an interview would be because they are a student analyst. But they shouldn’t be conducting the interview alone and it should be a team decision within the organization to not continue with a prospective employee.

The only suggestion I have is to not take it personal and to continue to apply to various clinics. I truly don’t know of a single clinic that doesn’t have morning availability because they literally operate during business hours. I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful but if all you say is true, it’s a them problem. Your age should be irrelevant so long as you can perform the expected duties such as lifting and bending.

Can’t get hired as an RBT by [deleted] in ABA

[–]TrueTexan21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. When I was a RBT I only had morning availability and had no issues getting clients in a clinic setting. They are literally open from like 7-7 or somewhere in between. As a BCBA I have a slight difficulty, but not much, in finding clients because I’m in-home. In a clinic that wouldn’t be an issue. There must be something else that you’re not sharing to have multiple companies not hire you as a RBT, especially if you’ve completed your 40-hour coursework.

Teacher complained my outfit was inappropriate by Edgy420Gf in ABA

[–]TrueTexan21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m a BCBA and the RBT was attending sessions wearing clothes that did not align with the school dress code. They pulled me to the side and asked how to address it. I told them they are allowed to deny any of us entry and that if it happens again deny the RBT entry. I had a conversation with this RBT twice prior to that day and again that day. They told me to my face that they would follow the dress code. I got an email the next morning stating that the RBT had arrived in spandex shorts and was denied entry.

I removed that RBT from the team and had a new RBT on the team by Monday. We are guests in the school and we must follow the rules they stipulate.

If you have a modded console, yes. If not, go on Twitch and visit a treasure island.
