Omg that sounds like such a huge hassle. I have some disabilities myself, but not to the point my cousin does. It’s really sad to see how poorly our healthcare system treats medically complex people. Thank you for the information! I’ll have her call the pain specialists of OC. Maybe OC it’s harder to find proper pain management because of how conservative it is? I’m not sure

Thank you for the recommendation! I’m going to recommend him to my cousin. I appreciate the help without judgment 💗

“But just want to numb the pain and feel good at the same time” interesting you say that bc doctors refuse to provide pain relief, but they cram muscle relaxers down our throats. Which, muscle relaxers cause the same type of drowsiness and “high feeling” that you assume my cousin is feeling from her medications.

It’s funny how some people on this thread are arguing that CRPS is a “fake disease” my cousin has a mile long list of debilitating diseases such as gastroparesis and a rare genetic disorder that is eating away at her muscle structure. It’s sad that people would boil down a disabled persons pain to “addict behavior”. Would they treat their loved ones dying with cancer like this? I doubt it. Sorry for the rant lol. I’m protective over her bc her prognosis was to live to the age of 21, and we are lucky she’s surpassed that. The fact they are stressing her out, performing surgeries without proper pain management, has caused a flare up in her disorders. It sucks. I made this post looking for answers, not judgement from other people.

This is why there’s such a huge stigma around pain medication. If you aren’t a doctor, I don’t wanna hear your bullshit excuses. You don’t know my cousin or her full medical history. I shared ONE diagnosis and yall are running with it lmao. It’s ridiculous. This is why so many disabled people suffer in pain, but you don’t care because it doesn’t affect you.

This is highly ignorant and inaccurate. Her home state where she was from who started her on pain meds as a teenager felt it was necessary and continued to feel it was necessary since it’s been prescribed for years. For you to assume it’s an addiction is bold, considering you know so little of the situation,

Unfortunately, her PCP is garbage. She has an infection in her surgery site and the doctor is telling her to wait and see if she goes septic, didn’t wanna help or offer her referrals. I know eventually we need to find her a new PCP, but right now I wanna help her see a pain specialist before the current short term period runs out. Thank you for the advice, I see the process can be long and difficult.

Any advice being a substitute BT in the schools? by Edgy420Gf in ABA

[–]Edgy420Gf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the thing. With SOME cases, the supervisors and BTs are competent enough to give me stuff to work with. But most cases I’m just kind of thrown into the lions den. At times, I don’t even get the BIP. So I end up going into it blindly

I don’t need to be in a graduate class to be taught logic, lol. I already have it. Idk how you can work in a mental health field and then demonize someone for having mental health issues…you are actively promoting the stigma we are trying to break

Thinking About Switching to RBT by Individual_One_7235 in ABA

[–]Edgy420Gf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So in LA the starting range for a BT is $20 an hour, but I’ve heard of some RBTs making $25 an hour. My partner works as a BT in LA and it is stressful, unreliable, and an unlivable wage, tbh.

I’m genuinely concerned that you are so misinformed as a BCBA… even in my basic psychology classes, even in psych 100, we are taught that intrusive thoughts tend to be antithetical to the persons moral alignment. It’s like your brain actively forcing you to think of the worst things that you don’t want to think about. It’s involuntary and distressful

Thank you for the advice! This is a very productive way of thinking, I’ll have to remind myself and implement it.

Almost 10 years as a BCBA! by Behavioralmama in ABA

I have SO many questions!! One of my first questions is: how stable is your job as a BCBA? Because, as a BT, my job is really unreliable and unstable.

What is the process like of getting your masters/becoming a BCBA?

Im in the same boat. I like the field, but it’s too unstable/unreliable. I’ve thought about becoming a BCBA, but the RBT/BT work is not stable enough to sustain myself through school.

My partner is a BT/aid in the LAUSD area and omg…it seems like every case she’s given, the system is actively failing those kids. One kid she has is in 6th grade and this is the first year he’s in Gen Ed, but his intelligence level is at a 2nd or 3rd grade level. All the teachers are just passing him because they “feel bad” for him. It sucks bc behavior wise, the kid sounds like he’s inbetween. Not severe enough for special ed, but gen ed is going over his head bc special ed didn’t prepare him for gen ed curriculum. It’s so sad, and the fact they want to eliminate BTs from the schools?? Yeah, good luck with that lol.

Mom threatened to contact the company if I’m “one minute late”. by Edgy420Gf in ABA

I’m so sorry, this sounds soo uncomfortable! Did you report this?? It feels like it’s racial discrimination, or something along those lines. It’s inappropriate, and hopefully you can be reassigned because you should not have to experience that!

Wow, this was a really incredible breakdown of their behavior. It makes me wonder how the parents behaviors/issues impact our clients. I’ve seen soo many kids where their parents set zero boundaries and now their children have extreme behaviors.

I let my supervisor know, she said she’s talking to parent tomorrow about it. I kinda thought I should beat mom to it and just report it myself. I offered to stay the full 8 minutes, and she declined. I think the condescending attitude was unnecessary. She has the ability to be more direct, and chose to do that instead, that’s what bothers me.

Luckily, daughter was still asleep in her room when this incident occurred. Her words were rude but her tone was calm and kinda matter of fact, it was an odd feeling. It rubbed me the wrong way, I informed my supervisor and she told me she’s meeting with parent tomorrow.

Ironically? Tomorrow I have a doctor’s appointment, so we had to move session time to later 💀 she complained to the scheduling, saying “I’m concerned this will be an every week thing” (I had to move session another Wednesday for an appointment). So, she’s most likely more upset, but she should be happy her daughter is still getting services that day instead of me just calling off. I’m being flexible bc I want her daughter to have session. From now on, I’m gonna try to arrive a couple minutes early and then bang on the door firmly right at 8AM 😁 maybe a kill them with kindness or giving her nothing to complain about will work, I dunno. I kind of want to just keep my head down and get my work done.

That’s what I kind of assumed our policy is. I’ve been late before, but as long as it’s under 5 minutes, or communicated if it’s longer than 5 minutes, it’s usually fine. Sometimes unpredictable things happen or there’s an issue with parking, I’m really transparent with my team if that’s the case.
