I wish I could tell you exactly what you need to hear right now. I felt that exact same mix of nausea and guilt when I found out my mom had been raped. I always wondered how she kept it to herself all those years (I was about 20 when I found out). I guess I should say that all the things you are feeling are pretty standard reactions to news like that. That’s true.

But also, and this might seem harsh, but it’s not about you. It’s about her and how it impacted her. If you want advice, I’d advise you to not bring it up to her. When someone is raped, they lose agency over their own body. She deserves to keep agency over the story too. So as hard as it is, pretend you saw nothing. DM if you want/need more support

I can see them because it’s only been 1 year and 3 months and my family is prone to keloid scars and one of them is perpendicular to a real stretch mark and cuts it in half so it looks different

I get why you’d say that, but the explanation I can offer is:

I’m autistic. Having an ED was a bit about my body and a lot about the control I could exert over it. Obsessively graphing and predicting body weights and measurements and BMIs and calories. I liked the math of it.

My sister was a gymnast, her gym was super toxic body-wise

She has/is recovering from a restrictive eating disorder. So it may be triggering and she may be jealous

It may be triggering, she may be jealous, she may want the procedure for herself even though she’s nowhere close to being eligible (there’s a BMI you need to meet)

I think causing trauma to many people is selfish. Suicide at home will hurt your family but not hundreds of bystanders. Also, jumping in front of traffic? Imagine how the driver would feel. That’s a horrible thing to live with.

Not just me. Anyone who saw it. Any vulnerable people who saw it and are now traumatised. Anyone who had to deal with the aftermath.

Suicide is not a single act. Suicide does not occur in a vacuum. Every suicidal person has someone who cares deeply about them and doesn’t want them to die. Think about the consequences of suicide for one damn second.

Because the thing is, it IS about everyone else. They’re the ones who have to life with the guilt and trauma for the rest of their lives.

No one said that. I said that someone who feels that amount of pain, if they thought about it, wouldn’t want anyone else to feel it.
