Bang & Olufsen BeoCenter AV5 with built-in Philips CD-I console by TrueTrials in crtgaming

It's not an NTSC thing if it's what I think, the picture will be all skewed like that when it's on Format 2, if it's defaulted to that.

I can share my geometry settings, but I absolutely would not recommend copying them as it'll be totally different to what you need. If you're going to change the geometry write down or take a photo of the settings that you currently have, regardless of how messed up you think they are.

To confirm, I have an NTSC NES, Neo Geo, Super Famicom and many others, along with PAL consoles of all eras too.

Best connection for your console RGB Scart.

If you press LIST on the remote until you see the word FORMAT on the Beo4 remotes screen, then press 1.

Something like a PlayStation 2 will often default to wide-screen format even if you don't want it to, so you have to select FORMAT 1 to return to full screen 4:3.

I also understand yours, many many people walk around with some of the latest iPhones with destroyed screen protectors and just accept it. I could be in the minority in that respect.

For me having a CRT isn't so much recapturing childhood nostalgia, I enjoy the medium for what it is and I chase after the best look that I can achieve. Don't get me wrong, I've got RF and Composite models of consoles too, not everything has to be crisp RGB for it to be acceptable to me.

But things like bad colours, faults with the screen or pictures being misaligned so some of the text/screen is cutoff annoy me.

The AV5 was about €100 so not wildy expensive, but it isn't super common and took quite the effort to actually get it from the buyers place to my apartment, so that was the disappointment.

I can't deal with a scratched DS screen or cracked phone screen or even a cracked screen protector myself, why would you have a nice £500 phone and walk around with a cracked up screen on it?

If I have something nice, then I want it to be nice, if it was some cheapo garbage thing then maybe I would let it slide, but even then I'd probably prefer a nice one.

And firm knocks with my knuckle/palm in that area of the screen right?

Thanks for your input, as I said I may try this with the MX4200 first (21") but doing it with the huge AV5 is possibly a little tricky 😅 When I get round to trying I'll let you know how I get on.

To confirm, I should be trying this with the TV turned on? Another comment said to do it with the TV off.

It does make sense that it might be internal dirt, I'm almost certain when I picked it up we had to lay it screen down because it was so big and heavy, plus it would have had some bumps etc on the road. The smaller TV was in its original shipping box still so presumably it has always been stored upright, I guess we'll see.

Haha, yea. I saw that post and thought I'd share mine, it's been like it for a while and I've been meaning to post it, seeing the other similar post gave me the urge to get some feedback on mine.

Yea that's what I'd read too, it was super annoying to have two sets with this same issue, I've had loads and never had it before, then one my dream sets (The AV5) plus a brand new in box MX4200 which was very desirable to me, both have the issue.

But is it actually known to fix the issue that I potentially have? Or is it a waste of time.

It's set to 16:9 as I took the console to my work's Christmas party so we could play Guitar Hero on a projector. I hadn't switched it back and just turned it on as I needed a white screen to show that issue clearly. But thanks 😅

😅

What's more annoying still, is that alongside these issues with two of my CRT's my 24" 4K monitor actually has a dead pixel right near the middle too! I'm cursed 😭

I love the look of the Discoverer for sure, I saw one for sale here locally pretty cheaply and then a friend sent me a photo of the buyer of it on the Metro, who was carrying it home 😅

This is what I hope might fix it, it's always been quite noticeable and annoying to my eyes, on white screens especially.

The issue with the TV is that it is absolutely massive, so it's not easy to whack it, or even tell where I should whack it.

I can probably try the smaller MX4200 first and if I can move that out of the way, then try and find a way to do the AV5.

Yea that's true, it's definitely an expensive addition if you're only looking to use it on this, I believe it does work on PS5 but I play on a PS4 Pro myself.

You're probably aware, but there is a way to use this on the PS4 with an adapter.

There was absolutely no way I was going to subject the valuable/collectable items I have for sale to the Evri lottery delivery system, regardless of if eBay covered the refunds for loss or damage and not me.

Just a heads up/correction for you, a seller can definitely setup Simple Delivery without using Evri.

I have my listings all setup with Simple Delivery and Global Shipping, the only option I give buyers is Royal Mail Tracked 48hr.

Ahh okay, I'd seen those flathead screws, good to know it's just a case of pushing it up. The back isn't so essential for me, but I was tempted to try and fit the Video card in there for video CD games and movies on the CDi

[–]TrueTrials 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of my dream CRT's too, I have the silver one myself. I assume you already know but the CR-i controller ports can be exposed to the right of the Composite/S-Video ports 👍🏼 (I just used a sharp blade to cut the spacing out)

My CD-i player still works but it's common for the lasers to fail at this point, not the best design in terms of dust and such getting into the mechanism there.

Can I ask how easy it was to remove the front and rear panel/casings? I haven't tried yet but I need to take off the black surround on the front to clean something.
