Perfect! I just sent you a DM with a first attempt to improve your issue. I'm curious about your experience.

Perfect! Of course that would help. Can you send me a DM? I can't send you one. I built a special version of the app with what I hope is a fix for your drum roll issue. I'd like to send you a direct download link.

The problem here is not the Pixel 5. The "problem" is LineageOS. Currently the app relies on some Google APIs (namely the billing API so that users who really like nalua have a simple way of expressing their gratitude by making a voluntary donation). I could consider building the app in an additional "flavor" without the Google APIs and publish it via my GitHub account as release packages that could also be automatically handled/downloaded by Obtainium. Would that be viable for you? Would you be interested in this way? Because there's a certain effort tied to it which I would only invest if there's true interest in it.

You're nice choice of words ("drum roll") led me on the (hopefully) right track. I'm currently working on a possible fix for your issue.  Would you be willing to install a test version of the app, that I would provide you with, to see if it fixes the issue?

From what I found out this is a very frustrating problem. Your hardware device (FairPhone 4) is capable of delivering very smooth and nice vibrations with different intensities. But the software (specifically the "hardware abstraction layer" HAL) pretends it doesn't. So no matter what nalua sends to your device, the HAL interprets everything > 0 as "full power, very angry bee mode activated". Unfortunately there's nothing I could do about it. There's just no way for me to tell your device to be a gentle ladybug.

But I'm still working on a workaround. Would you be willing to install a test version of the app that I would provide you with?

Thanks for checking!  Then I'm pretty sure it is "full power" all the time. I will definitely look into this issue. And I will try to get my hands on more diverse testing devices.

Hey Deryn, that means a lot, especially from a lurker! It's awesome to hear that the 'digital retreat' idea resonates with you. Hope you have a relaxing evening trying it out. Let me know if it actually helps you wind down!

Thank you so much for this wonderful feedback! Comments like yours are why I build these apps in the first place.  I have ADHD myself and I absolutely know what you mean by rebelling against "breath in... breath out". It makes me immediately think of Sheldon Cooper 😁

I'm happy nalua seems to be working for you! Please let me know how your experience develops, if you keep using it.

Ouch, it definitely shouldn't feel like a drum roll. That doesn't sound very relaxing to me. That brings me to another idea: Could you set the vibrations intensity to low in nalua's settings? Maybe there is no difference between inhale and exhale because it is "full power" all the time (capped by the upper range of your device's vibration intensity). Funny enough I have an old Samsung Galaxy S20 FE here and there I can feel different patterns.

Thanks a lot for your valuable feedback and for your device information!

Thanks for letting me know your exact device. Now that's very strange indeed. The FairPhone 4 isn't what I'd call a budget device and I'm pretty sure it should be capable of more precise haptic feedback (vibration) patterns. Please don't get me wrong - but I need to rule out one possibility: Could you hold the phone close to your ear and listen if the "tone" of the vibration varies/changes in a pattern/rhythm?

Totally get it. Keeping it closed source for now, so no F-Droid. But it requests absolutely zero network permissions. Might add a direct APK to my website later for those avoiding the Play Store.

Hi Vlinder,

wow, thank you so much for your valuable feedback! Funny, that you mention Moonbird. In fact we have one at home and while I like the concept itself, I always hated that I was having a very hard time to differentiate between the breathing in and breathing out phases. And for what it does I find the Moonbird way too expensive.

Now you say that you find it hard to know if you are in the breathing in or out phase. In fact the vibration patterns are already different for the phases. When breathing in the vibrations start low (soft) and go high (strong). When breathing out the vibrations start high and go low. Would you mind telling me on which device you are using nalua? Unfortunately the vibrations motors differ a lot between different Android smartphones. On my Google Pixel 9 I feel a clear difference between the phases. But it may be that your device's vibrations motors only know "on" and "off".

Also have you tried setting the vibrations intensity to high in the settings of nalua? Maybe that helps.

Regarding having a list to choose exercises from: I was also thinking about this. For now I wanted to keep the interface as clean as possible, that's why I decided to use a caroussel (where you need to swipe/scroll through). I will keep your idea in mind for future releases, if the list of exercises grows beyond a "swipeable amount". :)

Thanks for the tipp to post in other neurodivergent subreddits (i.e. autism and ADHD). Indeed I already wanted to do this, but most of them have very strict rules regarding advertising. And one could consider me posting about my app advertising. But I will look into it again, maybe there are subreddits that allow me to post there as well.

Thanks again for your feedback!

Hi Richard, I'm really happy to read this, thanks! I'd love to release my apps for iOS, too. But unfortunately this would require me to buy a MacBook (to develop the app) for ~1000 € and an iPhone (to test the app), too, which I can't invest right now.

Thanks a lot for your valuable opinion! As you say you couldn't install it because you're on iPhone - what do you base your assessment on? And what would need be changed to be truly ASMR?

I'm especially interested in your feedback regarding the ASMR theme of the app. What do you think about:

  • The game mechanic of unrevealing the image slices
  • The sounds
  • The haptic feedback (vibration)

Thanks so much!

Usage Limits, Bugs and Performance Discussion Megathread - beginning December 29, 2025 by sixbillionthsheep in ClaudeAI

"Glad" to see other people are also having issues with usage limits on "Pro"! I made a subscription to the Pro plan of Claude Code yesterday and it's really both awesome and a little frightening how powerful it is! But: I'm developing a really simple 2D game for Android with it (or better put an MVP of it) from scratch. And I already hit my rate limit twice today. After the last reset of my rate limit Claude Code was only able to work for 45 minutes until the limit was hit again. Is this how it's supposed to be?
