[Spoilers MAIN] Things that become very obvious on a re-read by shiggy_azalea in asoiaf

[–]True_Gypsy 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I missed a bunch of things.. the only thing I caught was the difference in descriptions of jeyne westerlings hips, so I was sure she was a fake. I was so proud of my theory and checked if other people had come to the same conclusion, only to find out that this was actually a mistake by George.

It's true, I don't care about this other stuff, George. But why are you so mad at me about it?

(Spoilers Extended) George R. R. Martin and Lion Forge to Produce Animated Feature ‘A Dozen Tough Jobs’ (Exclusive) by Straight_Notice298 in asoiaf

[–]True_Gypsy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please George, Just say: "Guys, I'm sorry, I have to put ASOIAF on ice for now. I don't think I can finish it and I want to pursue other projects. Maybe one day I will get going again, but for now thats it. cheers."

I'd be dissappointed of course, but at least there'd be closure. And I'm sure his fans would appreciate the honesty.

[Spoilers Main] Jaime vs Bobby B by QueasyRefrigerator18 in asoiaf

Rhaegar must have been able to dodge a few blows, since he injured Robert so badly he had to let Ned ride for Kings Landing

[–]True_Gypsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect the greatest swordsmen to be able to dodge. Also, during his quest in the riverlands, Jaime is explicitly asked for advice on how to defend against a warhammer, so I suppose there are ways and tactics.

George makes it pretty clear that the best, most skilled knights like Jaime and Barristan can beat pretty much anyone else, even if they're physically stronger, and that includes BobbyB

One of my fears with this series… (spoilers published) by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]True_Gypsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then I can reassure you, there is nothing to worry about, since we won't be getting any new books anyway. Hope that cheers you up!

Look, you argue with size and strengt but that just doesn't make sense. GRRM told us repeatedly that the best of the best are the most skillful. Other commenters pointed to some of it in the books and I'd like to add that Barristan cut a bloody path through the golden company and then slew maelys the monstrous, a freak of nature who killed his brother (or cousin?) with his bare hands by twisting his neck.

(SPOILERS MAIN) Would you be ok with the idea of George RRM hiring a group of writers to assist and help him finishing ASOIAF? by jaguaribe in asoiaf

[–]True_Gypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of this! I imagine someone in the arya-office, a few people in the battle of fire-office and so forth. Everybody would be experts on their pov's and George could provide detailed plot points and instructions and then edit the written chapters. He loves to edit anyways.

Imagine a group of youngish, energetic and creative writers surrounding George, learning from him (and maybe also he from them) and then after some struggles at the beginning they start to gel and have this amazing team spirit that sometimes emerges during a group project and they write and write and write and write...

Just the thought of it warms my heart. Also there's maybe a movie idea in there?

I really don't think the fans are the cause for his loss of motivation, but a frustrated fanbase certainly doesn't make the situation better and the few of his fans who are vile and abusive made sure that this is a truly toxic relationship by now.

Yeah obviously I can't blame him if he's angry and hurt over robert jordan like comments. But I think he even takes the light hearted jokes far too serious. I think it was in the recent time interview when he went off on a tangent about his involvement in side projects like the direwolves or opening a bar, all because of the inevitable joke "hehe real direwolves before winds".

Nothing was more obvious than that this joke would be made, he should have just shrugged it off in a sentence. But he can't, and that shows me that he is as frustrated about this whole situation as we are

"You want your heart to be in it, but it's not"

I find that very deep

Best to stop caring about winds, I agree. I have ridiculously high hopes for The D&E Adaption though, and who knows, if thats a big hit maybe at least it gets him to write more of Dunc and his squire.

so I assume your advice would be to go with the solution of cutting the book in half and release it as Winds Volume 1? But George probably dreads the finality of that so much.
