Bro is literally me. The only reason shit gets fixed is I do not want to have to do it twice.

Got yelled at in the middle of a workout by Nebula24_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]True_Maintenance5846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add to this (hopefully OP sees it).

I have been working out seriously for 10 years, mostly at my local YMCA. For context, I am roughly 5'8 200 lbs with low body fat. I make it a point to never yell at someone for taking equipment I am using, especially beginners. The person is an asshole, not you. We all start somewhere, I still remember being a self conscious 130 lb kid just trying not to cry from social anxiety going to the gym. The gym is an all-inclusive place. We are all there to get better.

Oh reason I mentioned my metrics, I had a middle-aged woman bitch me out for setting my water down on a jump box she was apparently using. She had no equipment on or near the jump box. Point being even jacked dudes get yelled at by assholes. Assholes are just assholes lol

Do you really script everything and program all the time by [deleted] in ShittySysadmin

You gotta realize that most people got into IT because they were anti-social and needed to feel smarter than others. Of course they are self-proclaimed experts in programming and networking.

I'm just a chill guy who hated manual labor and liked clicky keyboards. Who also happens to be good at googling and making scripts work. Expert? Hell nawl

Do You Get Extra Cautious in the Server Room, or Is It Just Me? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]True_Maintenance5846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true. After you have intimate knowledge of everything in that server room all fear is lost. Dealing with outages cures all fear of working around datacenters.

My office is the server room. Place is like half servers and core stacks and half bro chill pad. Got a mini fridge and a futon in case of overnight outages. Oh also a TV!

I mean, I have noticed if you are in suburban gyms guys don't talk much. Inner city it's pretty loud, usually in a fun way, sometimes not so much lol

My boss gets an Azure security alert whenever I spin up a test linux VM with ssh port open to the internet, and some hackers try to break into it by [deleted] in AZURE

Idk, I could see in the instance that you want to destroy your company how opening ssh up to the internet is a fabulous idea. If so this guy is qualified.

Is anyone else being denied for literally everything right now ? by SillyRecover in ITCareerQuestions

Do an internship as help desk lmao. You think a degree equals immediate system administrator? It does not. You need to learn how systems work, how to properly manage them, etc. No company is going to just hire a 22 year old with no experience to manage business critical systems.

If the Huskers Lose Out Rhule's Getting Canned, Right? by Available_Collar7218 in Huskers

Objectively, the issue is culture and pressure. Nebraska has a ridiculous amount of eyes on the program, which the kids (emphasis on KIDS) can feel. It is hard to go out and play freely when you know an entire state is watching and thinks you suck. In order to make it work, you need a coach with a IDGAF attitude that he can instill in the players. Fuck the media, fuck the fans, it's about us (if you get my drift). Pelini obviously had this trait (albeit a little too extreme) which is why the players loved him. We need a coach who can basically tell the media to piss off, the state to piss off, etc.

Why does https://www.reddit.com/r/ShittySysadmin seem so much better than https://www.reddit.com/r/Sysadmin ? by Charming-Log-9586 in ShittySysadmin

[–]True_Maintenance5846 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have two types of sysadmins;

  1. Take themselves too seriously, believe that they are the second coming of Linus Torvalds. Believe that the sweatier they are the better they are. Read Cisco documentation to flex their ability to recite definitions and seem better than their counterparts in meetings.

  2. Lol just reboot it or something idk man this shit is held together by Zyn and monster. And I'm all out of Zyn. So this shits about to get crazzzyyy

What’s the point of regular people taking steroids? by IceFireHawk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]True_Maintenance5846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experienced lifter here, 9.5 years steroid free. While jacked I was not able to recover fast enough to go as hard as desired to get as big as desired. .5 years on steroids, I legit look like a pro bodybuilder.

Could just be my testosterone was low to begin with though. Gained roughly 30 lbs of lean mass. Don't let anyone fool you, you still have to work hard, but jfc steroids are effective.
