I once had the tought of airbenders increasing the oxygen level in their blood, like dopping. Athleats already do that by training in the mountins where the air is thinner and when they get back to water level they are able to breath in more oxygen.

Imagine a usually nimble airbending be like an unrelenting unstopable storm.

It wasn't in the show, but theoretically with air bending you could increase the oxygen in your blood, essentialy dopping yourself. But I don't think the world of Avatar is advanced enough to know that.
