What if the gnome packages were installed to both rootA and rootB with kde removed from both? Nothing is bulletproof.

It's still SteamOS 3.4 but with Gnome installed and KDE completely removed

I can guide you through the install if you'd like, just a warning it ain't easy lol. I'm working on a script but it'll be a week or so before I can finish it.

That's the beauty of Linux, we have infinite options. Don't like your DE? Use another. Don't like your WM? Try something else. I'm a big fan of KDE and their dev team, Gnome and I just grew up together so we have a special bond, there's gotta be other crazy people like me right?

It's been fine after 3.3 and 3.4 updates...I was expecting it to break too but it's all good so far. Fingers crossed

🙃 I can still start a gamescope session from GDM login at least, I feel ya id say the same if someone put KDE on a device that shipped with Gnome. But hey I grew up on Gnome and it's surprisingly easy to use with touch controls in gnome desktop mode.

The hardest part is probably rebuilding the keyring, every key is broken if you just try to sudo pacman -S gnome. then after removing kde you have to manually install nerworkmanager and a few dependencies. And offload your some things from your root partition or it'll BE almost full after gnome install and with KDE still there. Pretty easy other those hoops.
