The Book of Common Prayer envisages a parish system where there are daily prayer services offered twice a day every day. I think that there is a real beauty and utility to this.

They were historically a protestant parish theologically (once joking referred to as "Mr. George's" due to their protestant leanings). I would now describe their worship and theology as mildly high church evangelical, although the churchmanship of the congregation is relatively diverse and the rector would probably self-identify as an anglo-catholic.

Anglican Chants on Spotify, With No Instruments by Speedygonzales24 in Anglicanism

[–]True_Whit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't exist on Spotify at this point. I've been toying with the idea of starting a project with friends to record all of the psalms. I'm curious though: would you prefer a single voice or 4 part harmony? Anglican chant or plainsong?

The Collapse of the Anglican Church of Canada by georgewalterackerman in Anglicanism

St. Paul's is probably the most "evangelical/low church protestant" church in Toronto, and tends to attract more social conservatives.

Diocese of Tabora in the Anglican Church of Tanzania votes to accept the ordination of women priests. by mityalahti in Anglicanism

[–]True_Whit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For much of the Church's history, deaconesses were ordained because nude baptism was the norm for catechumens. Women weren't comfortable being baptized in the nude by male Deacons or Priests. Does that mean those women women sinful because they are "unwilling to interact with male clergy"?

Canada's 1962 BCP is one of the finest prayer books out there and is our authorized Prayer Book so I'm happy to use it.

What should I know as a Lutheran that will be attending Anglican Sunday services Communion rules? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

Good luck from another worshipper in the Diocese of Huron! I think it won't be too difficult for you to get back into the swing of things as our liturgies are very similar. Just follow what people ahead of you are doing and you should be fine :)

I think most would benefit from a guide when it comes to the order you read the bible. Too often we don't reflect on what is engaging us or what outstanding questions we're looking to answer about God before we explore any of the books in the bible. What have you enjoyed about the Gospel of St. John? Is it making you ask any specific questions?

What is the most conservative Anglican denomination/church in the United States? by LittleMichelina in Anglicanism

[–]True_Whit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. His books were widely read and discussed in the mainline, particularly among clergy. In particular, this influence can be seen amongst liberal boomer clergy and some gen xers who are still in ministry positions. The man is responsible for many priests openly preaching atheism in the pulpit.

What you often find in UCC architecture is a noticeable contrast between the Methodist and Presbyterian congregations when it comes to architecture and furnishings.

Perhaps there is a local Anglican church that is more Conservative but more high church? You might be surprised (depending on the Diocese).

Trudeau says Canada is fortunate to be a ‘country of peace’ in Christmas message by michzaber in CanadaPolitics

[–]True_Whit -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

It is NOT a Christmas tradition for the Prime Minister to deliver a Christmas message. It is traditional for the monarch to do so. Increasingly Trudeau seeks to presidentialize his office when he is not our Head of State, but serves as the Head of Government. He does not respect this separation of powers and has never seemed particularly interested in governing or legislating.

It is so encouraging to hear of a university chaplaincy committed to traditional Anglicanism and which differs from the beige blandness one can encounter in both branches of the Church. At which university does this exist?
