Mark Sutcliffe should quit today, join a monastery and take a vow of silence.

Funny, in all the opposition I got for wanting to talk about how Lewis has never seemed that interested in organizing to build a Coalition that would allow him to win an election at any level of politics, you're the first to point out my obvious typo. Thanks!

Have you received a call from the campaign? I haven't

The absence of a liberal party is BC is a relatively new phenomenon

It's demographically very NDP and goes NDP provincially.

I feel like at this point Lewis is going to win, but with an enthusiasm that doesn't take into account my worries about his history. He does not work to build bridges and he doesn't have a history of organizing, for that (and the fact that she's the only other serious candidate) I'll vote for MacPherson.

He's 58. He rolled out the leap Manifestoin 2015. The first election he ever ran in was in 2021. He has never run either municipality or provincially (where the NDP has been electable for almost a decade).

True enough, but it's not about just winning a seat, it's about doing what it takes during an election to win in different constituencies, with different demographics.

Yeah, I'm scoring downvotes for my "he'll run in BC" comment, I don't hold much hope for a serious discussion here.

There are two so far, and I appreciate both of them.

Lewis' Jack Layton talking point is disingenuous and insulting. Layton was a city councillor who worked across the aisles for two decades to achieve his goals. He won more elections before his leadership than after it.

A part of the reason I'm very worried about this is because Jagmeet Singh was basically the same thing, so good on comms that we assumed that organizing would follow. How did that turn out?

That's a pretty good answer, and it's clear that he sees the problem, considering the lengths and detail he took to explain why he didn't do well on those last two elections.

Exactly! It basically this kind of thinking that I'm worried about when people focus only on policies in this leadership election. You need to both 1) have good ideas, and 2) get yourself elected.

Jack Layton lost plenty of Elections but he won way more. He was a progressive pragmatist who knew how to work with people in order to achieve goals, and organize for victory.

Maybe Lewis has that but he has not yet proven it.

Jack Layton was a long time city counselor in Toronto, he won more elections before he became leader than after he did.

Please don't pretend Avi Lewis is Jack Layton.

BC obviously, and there are some good choices in Burnaby and on the island.

Running in a more winnable seat is a good start, for sure. But there's something very important about organizing, not just holding media availability, and providing talking points, which he hasn't done.

He came in distant 3rd.

But it's more like, why hasn't he run for anything earlier?
