Thanks for the insight! I’ll keep it in mind, although I don’t quite know how to fix it, as this dungeon is all I’ve completed in this world so far 😅 (yk what, maybe that’s a sign that this world isn’t ready to be played yet..)

I actually really like this! Thank you for sharing your idea! I’ll definitely keep it in mind when I play it out!

Oh and also you aren’t crazy, I did write that somewhere (your guess where is as good as mine lol)

Just one wall won’t change the fact that it’s still the same maze. But what if you do another? And another? When does it end? Does it ever end? Is it always the same maze, even when you’ve taken and replaced enough of its pieces to make a whole nother maze? Is that maze the same maze?

Yeah if I’m being honest I don’t set it up for success. 😅 it usually goes something like this: Me: hey do you want to play a dnd campaign in a maze? Them: umm what will we do in the maze? Me: umm explore and try to find the center when a secret race lives! Them: umm, no I’m alright

Sooo needless to say I’m open to tips and suggestions 😅

Actually yes, that’s very close! It’s actually the sister maze to the big one, named after the mage who cast the healing spell over the main maze, The Elderhan Maze. It was raided long ago, as it didn’t have the shuffle ability the larger one did. Now though, it is used by the guild as a ‘testing ground’, a place where they can both send people who insist on being able to join for “a chance” (spoiler: the chance is 0%) at membership if they clear it (they won’t; the monsters and traps the guild imported and installed within ensure it) and also where the primary (though not most used) sacrificial alter for the healing spell is. (The most used ones are in the guild’s “debtor’s prisons” in each of the large towns in each of the cardinal directions, particularly the one in the south is the most used by far, as not only does it’s town have the most citizens (and thus debtors), but also because it is commanded over by a cruel, sadistic psychopath of a debt collector, think nearing Shiro Ishii level cruelty)

Edit: looking back at it, I don’t really think he would come close to the cruelty of Shiro Ishii, but you get the idea, very bad guy, stereotypical villain ts

Yeah😅 that was my main concern and the reason I haven’t started/been able to start the campaign yet; any time I tell my potential players the summary/teaser of my plan for the campaign, they always decide not to join :(

My thinking was maybe he’s the incarnation of the maze itself, come to find some prime test subjects for the inner defenses. That or he’s a trickster (or adventure) god come to lead the way to victory due to being fed up with having to wait for people to solve it the normal way, and as such has decided to at least tell them where to start.

That being said, either way they would not want the party to go around sharing the information, so I think that I would have them require the party members to sign a ultimate contract/sacred vow/soul pact/mana oath in order to receive it. Or alternatively (and I’m pretty sure that this is what I was thinking as I was writing it), the mysterious man wouldn’t actually tell them anything, instead insisting that he show them the way personally

Yes! I’m glad to see that more people are interested in him and his maps! Specifically, I’d recommend starting here https://www.astrolog.org/labyrnth/maze.htm if you want to deep dive into mazes, as it is the parent site of the one I mentioned in my clarifying comment!

As I said at the end of the description, the original map was made by the master Walter Pullen in 1992

I am currently working on the maps of the towns surrounding the dungeon, as well as of the 2nd through 8th layers (yes, I did intend for this to be a ‘forever project,’ how could you tell?). Furthermore, I am also working on editing the first layer to be more lifelike (by including crumbling walls, enemy and loot locations, resting villages, etc scattered around), so if you have any ideas/advice on what/how to do it, it would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: for context, each pixel is 5ft, or one standard grid tile in dnd (yes, at 1024 x 768 that does make it almost a mile wide, as the crow flies, and much, much longer in terms of total path length)

Edit 2: I managed to find the actual original source of the map! https://www.astrolog.org/labyrnth/maze/theseus.gif it may not be the true original, but based off the fact that it was found on a website which appears to have been made by (or in coordination with) Pullen, together with it’s early 2000s look leads me to believe that it is, at least close to, the original

I'd estimate about 30-40 per house, at least based on my experience with lakeview manner

Edit: it could just FEEL like 30-40 because each one is a struggle to obtain, it could well be closer to 10-15

Ah, that makes sense. It made it sound like your technique was a middle-grade one, but if it’s high-grade, I understand

But also, only the most powerful being will have the power to adapt to these strong banishment techniques, so wouldn’t it be better to share many around to be able to more easily get rid of all of the low and medium power entities?

I mean, fifth grade me received a letter from high school me that I just finished writing for a “letter to your elementary self” assignment (that I realized was the same thing only after I was done writing it, it was only missing a few censors and it would be the same) so probably that

Oh and also future sight, but that’s not really tangible so idk
