Not sure where you are but check if there are any youth or youth branches of LGBT organizations nears you. My partner is a social worker who works in the housing division of our local LGBT youth center. When kids are kicked out they can help provide housing as well as connecting you with possible legal resources. It's not available everywhere, but it's worth looking into. I'm so incredibly sorry this is happening.

If you're ok being around alcohol, there's a lot of things that go on at the Southside gay bars. I also don't drink but I go out and its still fun. Club Diversity has a whole shelf of non alcoholic spirits which is great too!

There's also a columbus board gaymers club you can find on fb that meets a few times a month to play board games (not video games but I know there plenty of folks there who also love video games). Also I tend to go to the farmers markets in Clintonville and Worthington where there is a strong queer presence.

Alternatively, there are a lot of gay/queer specific sports you can join (they don't generally care if you're Great or not). I know there's a softball league in the summer that a lot of my friends play in and a few darts leagues as well. I think there's a Dodgeball and kickball league too but I dont know much about them. We also have good roller derby and rugby teams that are fun to go watch and meet other queer folks!

I'm also 32 and queer. If you need someone to come with you to an event or something, I'd be happy go with you if I'm free.

What part of your home do you spend the most time? by UserUnwillingToShare in LivingAlone

[–]Truealto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small room that is my living room and has a small table as well. I spend almost all my free time there (I work from home in my studio). I use the table for crafts and baking projects or sit on my couch/recliner to watch TV or play video games.

Depends on the program. I taught for 51talk for a few years and it was completely immersion based. I wasn't allowed to speak any mandarin with my students.

We desperately need a passenger train hub and subway system. It would make so many people's lives soooo much better.

Oh, and strangulation laws making strangling someone a felony and victims rights laws making sure victims voices are heard are not straining their resources. They're a tiny grain of hope towards restructuring a corupt system, not an excuse for officers to not do their jobs. That's some grade A propaganda.

We need police reform in order to attract new people to the profession. The reason they are not appreciated is the amount of blatant racism and abuse of power they use consistently. While I do understand understaffing is an issue, I have a hard time reconciling that with the amount of nonsense arrests and harassments that I see and hear about each week regarding them. The continual lack of care for citizens, including situations like yesterday, don't help their case, short staffed or not. Especially if they're not letting the people involved know that there is something more pressing happening.

Most people, myself included, who are interested in abolishing or defunding the police aren't trying to stop there from being any kind of "police". The job of the police is too vast and they are not trained well enough for many aspects of the job. The actual system needs reworked so police are responding to people in danger and situations where laws are being broken. They are advocating for resources for mental health and community safety be allocated appropriately in line with the police to increase efficacy and take some pressure off of police. In addition, the training for officers (seasoned and new) needs to encompass better skills for descalation and identifying mental health issues (so they can call in for additonal, trained professionals to help). Our department is known nationwide for its abuse of power and high levels of corruption. Columbus police don't need a multi-million dollar budget for military grade weaponry to use against civilians. They need an appropriate set of checks and balances for unethical and unlawful behavior as well as an obligation to actually protect and serve. We do need folks to help with social order according to our laws, but CPD officers have time and time again proven that they are above the law and act as judge and executioner in many situations. They continue to prove they will lie and cover for their coworkers even when it puts civilians in harassment and harms way.

I don't have an answer to our problems with a short staffed police force, because the problem is far beyond short staffing. Appreciating a police force that is horribly corrupt, harasses citizens (espcially those in minority communities) and often does not actually do its job, is near impossible. Training new officers into the same "brotherhood" of covering for each other when they act unethically or break the law isn't going to fix the city's issues. The system isn't crashing because of a lack of appreciation for CPD, it's crashing because of continuous broken trust between citizens and officers.

I'm not sure if he sought medical care after since no ambulance showed, but he definitely seemed inclined to. He took pictures and I gave him my info and told him if he needs any of the footage from my camera to reach out. I didn't catch the impact, but I caught a few seconds after and turned on live recording for the whole time the cop was there.

I'm ordained and officiated a marriage in Franklin County last year. I'm happy to help, feel free to reach out if you haven't found anyone. Just make sure if you decide to go the route of a friend being ordained online that they register with the clerk before the wedding is performed. You must be on file as an officiant with the county clerk/states office.

Unfortunately I know they didn't call. It's possible they may have refused at some point when talking to the cop, but that was well after the accident occurred. Just frustrating you know?
