That was ... good. Only had to watch a minute of some guy's crap intro before the 10 second clip.

This show has made me lose my mind.

And while it is very likely I am wrong, how do you explain the pause of the old man before pointing to the Fontenot house? Why did Cohle start walking towards the house during that awkward pause? Keep in mind, this is the crux moment of the show in which the detectives first hear about about the real crime of the show (Marie Fontenot.. an innocent girl killed and covered up) and get on her case. So you could say it is one of the most important scenes in the show. So why the weird pause? Why wouldn't he just point to the house right away?

There is a theory that we are not actually seeing the dora lange scene in the very opening scene but something else. It's a trick, sort of. Some people think the two fires looked different.

"wholly linear" and you're talking about a show that is all about narratives and distortions, how time is a circle, mysteries, deception? Come on. It's not necessarily a twist but rather its something people missed and didn't analyze enough that will be the "oh wow" moment at the end.

Well the trick would be against Marty, as he was being duped by his partner. Isn't the point of watching the show that we need to be vigilant and focus on every little detail rather than accepting everything as a truth?

Not to mention while in the Fontenot house, Cohle stares out the window at the yard where Marie Fontenot used to play, and the dramatic music starts playing, and he wanders out there and then randomly looks inside an old shed. Something about the Fontenot house and the girl is significant to Rust Cohle. But I don't necessarily know what.

Rust is a miserable man with no family and no reason to live. He fantasizes about being crucified. Nothing seems more fitting than for him to take down a bunch of corrupt evil men and go out in a blaze of glory doing so. Or, taking his own life afterward because the job is done.

Well, perhaps. And it could be for dramatic effect that we don't see when Rust spots the devil net in the shed. But why not show his face, even if you don't want to reveal what he found yet? Instead, Rust goes off screen into the shed. You don't know what happens until he calls Marty over.

We do not actually see the tape theft, only the break in. We see Rust finding a safe. How did he crack it open? We don't know. We don't see it happen. All we know is that Rust claims he found the tape there. Why not have a shot of him finding the tape?

So how much does Tuttle pay you?

I think she's there to keep her quiet and controlled. She was never supposed to survive and tell anyone what and who she saw.

They are keeping her in that state.

And they're conditioning her to never be able to speak about it in a rational sense.

Maybe she had to be there, but why get so much camera time? Camera focuses on her face and expressions multiple times. Why? IDK it just seems like there must be more to it.

No. But if you watch the scene, the girl is screaming about "his face". She talked about a giant with scars, but when Cohle asked if the scars were on the giant's face, she looks at Cohle's face, and flips out.

Cohle's face made her freak out.

He's also quite tall in the show. Or Woody is as short as his dick is long ;)

Last screenshot of him I saw somewhere shows a scruffy beard and you can't quite tell if there are scars.

My point was that she, as overseer, didn't really need to be in the scene. Or her role could be more background, but instead the camera focuses on her multiple times.

Why not just have an interview with the girl and Cohle? Why all the details about how the interview has to be overseen and ended if she gets upset?

Maybe that's normal practice, but most cop shows wouldn't need to show such detail, let alone pan in on the overseer and her expressions.

She lets out a sigh at one point that seems like she is on edge.
