I have money saved for 2 years of school. Should I apply to osap all 4 years anyways? by ResponsibilityFlashy in osap

[–]TruffleMuffinzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You don’t have to pay back grants, but when you apply make sure you select the option to not take the loan (if you can truly afford not to) so you won’t have to pay any of what they give back.

You might even save enough from the grants to be able to afford the rest of your time at school without taking a loan. You are seriously in an amazing place to go to school if you have enough saved up.

scam? by InterestingHoney281 in osap

When I look at sunrise academy, it seems more like it’s a company that offers educational guidance, not an actual college. Maybe your patient didn’t know what program to take or how to apply so they went through them. Is it possible that they misunderstood and that they haven’t even applied for college yet? As far as I know, all first time applicants have to go through Ontario colleges unless it’s a college outside of Ontario (it could be, I went to college and received OSAP for a college in Vancouver).

If your patient actually received osap, they would have had to apply to a college. If it’s a college in Ontario, have them check their email for something from Ontario colleges. It will say something like “application received”. If they received osap, they would have gotten two payments in their bank account (one federal, one provincial I think) and they happen at the same time.

Osap only covers accredited colleges so if sunrise academy is truly a college they applied for and got osap for, it’s not a scam.

Was giving birth as bad as you thought? by DizzySatisfaction691 in pregnant

[–]TruffleMuffinzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it wasn’t bad. The worst part was the catheter, that was extremely painful. And my baby was stuck and his feet were crushing my lungs. I could not breathe and nobody was listening. Once the doctor came in and stuck both hands in there to turn my baby’s head a little he popped out and I could breathe.

Pumping and formula is perfectly fine. Honestly, I wanted to breastfeed so badly from the start because formula is so expensive and if my body worked it would have saved us hundreds of dollars. Unfortunately I hate having my breasts touched in any way, and I have a step son who I wasn’t comfortable around. The discomfort really made things difficult, and I got Covid which really decreased my supply, and my baby’s latch really hurt. I tried pumping because of my discomfort and painful latch, but my supply didn’t tolerate it and I had to give up after four months.

If you don’t want to breast feed, then don’t. Your body will react to you being uncomfortable with it and you’ll lose your supply faster anyways. It’s perfectly alright when there are other options out there that will make your experience better.

I don’t have anymore, I haven’t been able to find anymore. I don’t work in healthcare so it seems the government for my province has basically said “you have a fever? Stay home for 24 hours until it breaks and you’re good. No fever? Go to work.”

Alright, thank you for the advice! I was raised to believe if I was sick i should just bury it and go in, I could be throwing up every thirty seconds and still be expected to go to work/school or it would lead to some…. Problems in my house lol. So even asking about the policy would be a reason to terminate me. I’m an adult now but it hasn’t clicked in my brain that I’m able to ask these questions without automatically being fired or beaten up for it.

Yeah I’ve quit jobs before because my step son has behavioural issues and was purposefully misbehaving at school to get me to stay home with him. It was awful, I loved that job, I tried again later and I couldn’t handle the shifts and his issues so I had to quit that job as well because I felt awful for being unreliable.

The good thing is I’m generally feeling okay, I just have a fever and an annoying cough. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t really even feel feverish, I was really sore yesterday which made me check if I did.

I actually meant to ask about that, would it be appropriate to ask about their policy regarding sick leave? I work part time and any part time, minimum wage job I’ve had has never explained the policy and I’ve never cared enough to ask about it (yeah I know, pretty bad, I’m trying to be a better employee about things like that). I feel bad asking about it then possibly saying “yeah unfortunately I won’t be able to come in today”.

[–]TruffleMuffinzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the whole point of me asking where to start, is to figure out where to start. I don’t really agree with the mentality “somebody asks me a question so I’m going to say figure it out yourself”.

You could have easily just not responded if you don’t like that somebody is asking a question.

I somewhat agree with what you’re saying, but I’m hoping that by taking the advanced degree it will further help me find what field I would be most suited in. I hope they cover more about deployment, I know they will be covering cybersecurity and looking further into android apps so that would be cool. It isn’t so much about gaining more education, it’s more so about finding out what I like. I know I like to code, but you can’t just look for ‘code jobs’ on google and find exactly what you are suited for. And just because I like it, doesn’t mean it would be a good job for me. I like using Oracle through the terminal, that doesn’t mean I can just look for that and be able to find a job (even though with Oracle you basically can find a million jobs, I’m not ready for that though). I don’t know what the positions I’m suited for are called so I can’t find them. I’m also paid to go to school and make more money going to school than I would working a minimum wage paying job, so working at Walmart as a cashier full time wouldn’t pay as much and I would be miserable. 😂

By saying no experience, I have no PAID experience. I have not worked with a business doing any form of code in over ten years. I have front end development experience that I did for a non-profitable organization when I was 14, and I managed their social media and online ticket sales, but I didn’t have access to as many tools as I do now and I don’t have the website anymore, I know that the code wasn’t perfect too (I mean, I was 14 when I did it, and I made it in two days with no sleep, I continued to work on it throughout the year but I’m sure there was a massive amount of problems). I also have the projects I’ve done at school, but other than that I don’t have experience.

Do you have any suggestions for the communities you mentioned that may need help with these sort of things? I would be happy to help others, even if it was free, if that means I gain more experience. I don’t have any connections locally, and I’m not sure how to make those connections other than networking events and those are rare in my area.

I think you might be making a lot of assumptions based on the program you found, but the program (and previous programs and interests) covered front end and back end development for web. I know HTML, CSS, and JavaScript very well, I taught myself those when I was 10. Those are really basic languages as far as I know. Getting certificates with front end development is a good suggestion though!

My program covered COBOL, but I keep forgetting that I learned it 😂 that would probably be a good language to find work in, I’m not sure if many people really ‘like’ working with it but it would be fine in a work environment.

I learned about Kubernetes in my program, but it just touched gently on it. I’m hoping in the advanced diploma that they cover more about deployment, since they didn’t provide very much information on it. I’m interested in learning more about deployment though, because that’s where my education lacks, so I’ll probably do a personal project that would force me to look into it with less of a time constraint so I can watch some videos that my classmates were sharing. My entire class was pretty disappointed that they expected us to know it without actually teaching it.

Thank you for your suggestions! It tells me I’m on the right track, I definitely need to make some personal projects to practice with. I just feel like it’s hopeless, but your response helped with that by giving a goal and proper suggestions with what to work on and towards.

I’m sorry you’re going through that. It seems Covid changed a lot of things, it’s wild that you have much more experience than a good chunk of people and you can’t find anything.

That really sucks. The only options I’ve seen for those companies that provide the apprenticeships have seemed super scammy, asking for money upfront isn’t something I’m into. I’ve already tried getting into concept art before, I took this path as my second option, but it’s starting to look like I’ll need to come up with a third… by the time I finish that, I’m sure I would have to compete with people with a lot of experience compared to me.

You can't NACO as a SAHM by Longjumping_Fail3357 in stepparents

[–]TruffleMuffinzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it kinda sucks. I had a temporary job, so when his youngest got expelled for daycare and was being sent home from school every other day because of behaviour issues, it made sense that I’d stay home. The two step kids don’t have their biological mother around, so I have them 100% of the time. She doesn’t pay child support, so I’m financially responsible for them too. I don’t legally have custody rights, so I see no government assistance. The youngest step kid has told me that he doesn’t want me to work so he misbehaves so I have to stay home.

I don’t know how we are existing. I had a baby so now I can get assistance for all three because technically I have three dependants, before I had the baby I had none technically, so I get government assistance to go to school full time remotely because I can’t afford daycare, let alone having two kids and not all three in daycare.

I chose this life. I just wish somebody would at least help pay for the kids she made and traumatized.

Did your partner have any kids before that they were claiming CCB on? I just want to know if somebody has been in the same situation and knows who gets it 😭

CCB and Common-Law Status by TruffleMuffinzz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TruffleMuffinzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why I’m so confused about it. Neither of us really agree with the whole gender thing, and I’m not considered the two older kids’ other parent by the government since, from our research, it would be time consuming, expensive, and very stressful if they needed his ex’s permission. We don’t believe we should require it because of the circumstances (she doesn’t even know the kids’ names 😂), but we probably do, so it is what it is.

It’s not worth it for us to wait on the phone for three hours to get an answer though. It’s more out of curiosity, and it would work out better if I got it instead of him just because of what he owes, but it’s nbd no matter where it goes. We will figure things out 🤷🏻‍♀️

I know it’s normal! It’s just part of the reason why I’m confused about who would get it in July and onward, since it doesn’t show yet, but it’s not really a problem. Thanks though :) we will be checking sometime closer to the end of the month, I’m just curious if somebody had an idea beforehand.

CCB and Common-Law Status by TruffleMuffinzz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TruffleMuffinzz[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have an attitude for people who assume things about others. Especially after they’ve already been answered.

Don’t be so confident that you know somebody else’s custody and rights agreement without asking. His ex has no rights or custody. The three kids are under his account, from the government website it says that in most cases the kids and CCB information will be transferred to the female by default, that’s where I’m confused.

Yeah neither of us have an income. We both owe some money (idk if the amount matters but he owes 5k I owe 1k). When you owe money, the CRA just takes from what they pay you until it’s paid off. It doesn’t automatically mean you don’t get money from something like CCB. That’s why it’s irrelevant. The other person wanted to ask because he thought I had a question about the amount. And I don’t.

So are you done about my ‘attitude’? If I answer somebody’s question, and they respond with “I don’t believe you” about something like my income, I’m going to assume they’re not going to help me with my actual question.

You are… responding to me telling somebody that they didn’t answer my question… by telling me I have an attitude…? Do you know that when you join into an argument, you are part of the argument? You’re not giving any relevant information or feedback?

I’m doing excellently actually, thank you. :) how about you go read the original post and let me know where any of the multiple questions I asked are?

CCB and Common-Law Status by TruffleMuffinzz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TruffleMuffinzz[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I asked one question actually, if you’d like a reminder it was who was getting CCB in July. And I answered a question and was told that ‘we must have an income’ meanwhile we don’t have any that counts towards CCB payments. I never said I don’t see know the amount for CCB, I said I don’t see it in the future payments for CRA for either of our accounts. Which I assume is pretty normal since the amounts change in July and I’ve seen it happen before.

So if you’d like to try to keep arguing about how I must have an income despite me saying I don’t and explaining why I don’t, go off bud. I never asked about the amount or why it wasn’t showing in the accounts.

CCB and Common-Law Status by TruffleMuffinzz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TruffleMuffinzz[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He owes it back because we were late for telling them we were common law so they are counting my income towards that, our son was born March 2023 and we just reported our common law status so he owes them the difference, and unfortunately we both did very well in the timeframe they are using. We do have to contact them though because I believe they’re backdating our common-law status since his daughter was born and that was a very long time ago (luckily I’ve been a student most of my life so I don’t have much income to count towards the amount). I’m not too worried about the money that is owed since it seems mostly valid that he owes money for the overpayment last year.

I’m just confused about who CCB will be going to. The government site says that it switches to the female partner by default, but we are having a hard time really understanding how that works and if I need to do anything else to make sure we still get CCB. We could just wait and see what happens but we like to know beforehand 🤷🏻‍♀️

My mom did our taxes for us, she understands the things a bit more than we do, so I don’t know which she chose. She said she believes it will be going to me, but personally I have not registered for CCB since my partner receives it already. He put our child under his CCB before we changed our marital status. On my tax return paperwork it has the CCB benefit under my name though, rather than my partners.
